Whats everyones favorite 4runner Generation?

I currently have a 3rd gen and I like it for what it is but Ive always wanted a 1st gen. Have never driven or been in one just love the way they look.

I'm giddy every time I see a first gen. Either well-worn, or minty.

There's a tech at my local dealership that has a beauuuutiful first gen, and he's the second owner. It needed a new engine, which he replaced. Everything else has been maintained or restored to perfection.

Some day

It's hard to narrow down. 1st gen, 3rd gen, and 5th gen in that order. Solid axle, size and removable top are my pros for the 1st gen. Pros for 3rd gen would again be size, 4 doors, engine, and it just looks great. 5th gen just for comfort level and still very capable off road.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the 1st gen. I've owned three of them. Gutless wonders but that was always part of the charm.

I am very much enamored with my 5th gen. It has everything I want as a consumer. If it had a manual tranny, you would have to pry it out of my kids, kids, kids, cold dead hands. For me this would be the holy grail.

Honestly, I do like all gens. I've been a Toyota truck fan since I owned my blue Stompers Toyota 4x4 back in 1984. I didn't have a poster of a Lambo on my wall, I had pictures of Toyota trucks and 4Runners, true story.

As a realistic daily driver, I love my 5.5. It's very capable off road, but has the features and niceties to make the day to day grind liveable. I always have, and will continue to love the 3rd gen. Seeing a nice one has always made me giddy. 1st gens likewise have always been awesome, especially well cared for. I do have to admit the 4th gen has never done a single thing for me.

Owned 1st, 2nd, and 3rd...

1st for pure style and simplicity.

2nd for "modifi-ability"...takes solid axles, 3.4 & t/c swaps well. 5spd plentiful.

3rd for more comfort, and great (albeit difficult to find) factory drivetrain options.

I have no experience with 4/5th gen, but if I had to get another T4R tomorrow,
probably end up in another 3rd Gen.

If I could get 5th Gen engine and 4-wheel drive system in a 3rd Gen I'd be a happy camper. I really like the look and size of the 3rd Gen's.

Just curious but will anyone vote for second gen?
Personally, I like 1, 3 and 5 but in the order of 3rd, 5th and 1st.

3rd - I love the size and super love the look stock with some lift. I like the 90s looking SUVs for some reason. I like having an engine that is so dependable and great gearing for off road and amazing ground clearance with just my 3" lift. I do dislike the over simplification of the 4WD system though. Without a locker it can't handle being crossed.
5th - I also kind of like bulky looking vehicles. Ones that people call a mall crawler but will run with other capable rigs on tougher trails. I love and hate the off road system meaning all of the aids. They're great but you kind of lose the feel for what's really going on.
1st - the flexibility is awesome and who wouldn't want a SFA

aesthetically I think the 2nd gen is beautiful. It also has tailgate and roll down rear window whats not to love. I think if the majority of them didnt have the 3.0 in it itd be favored more.

Yeah the 3.0 is what most people dislike.

1st gen hands down. 2nd gen is alright and I consider the 3rd gen to be the last of the good 4Runners cause of the smaller body and 5 speed manual option.

I love my 4th gen. V6, 4x4, sport ed. Bought new. Paid off. I handed down to my son. I will take it back when my son decided to get new car. It took us many locations that we never thought we could be. Too many camping trips and vacation memories with the kids and wife.

Loved my 2 3rd gens

and now have a 4th gen. Id love a 1st gen with a 3.4 V6 transplant..

Love the look and feel of the 3rd gens but they are becoming so popular and rare in good shape that its actually often more economical to buy a 4th gen, which don't feel as truck-y but seem so much better as a daily driver. Loved the feel of my 2000 but my 05 and 03 just ride/drive so much better. And the last year's of the V8s, which are miles above the older V6s.

Another vote for the 3rd gen. I also love the 90s suv style and the size is perfect. Another thing I love is the visibility while driving. Lots of large and well placed windows.
