Yup, that was me. Gobi is your only option outside of custom. They did have an incident where they were doing what you described. Search for it, it will come up. I don't want to rehash all the details and I know the other senior/always around members remember it.
Despite this I didn't want it holding me back from what I really wanted, life is short you know, so I went ahead and ordered it. The lady on the phone was super nice, I asked how long it would take and if it would be here before my camping trip and she went out of the way to make sure it was. I ordered on a monday night and the ladder was here from Colorado in South Carolina on Friday afternoon. Keep in mind the ladder had to be made and powder coated as they didn't have any in stock.
Quality is great, only issue I had is I couldn't install the set screws on the upper hatch plate but it is still super sturdy. I can move the entire truck with it and it doesn't flinch.
I'm much more pleased than I thought I would be with the ladder and the customer service there. Not that I condone what they did. I use the ladder all the time honestly. Go up there and eat lunch in the woods, get a better vantage point, take better pictures, lay with a significant other, just stand up there to look at people stare at me, through their sunroofs...
