Fellow URD 7th injectors: 190LPH fuel pump whine

Rather than hi-jack the supercharger thread I figured I should start my own with this question.

I've had my 7th injector kit installed for about a month now and so far so good. Still needs some tuning but my ping is down to a sliver of the powerband.

I did however notice today when I got out of my 4runner with the engine running a very loud whine and hiss noise coming from my fuel tank. Loud enough that It could be heard a good distance from the vehicle over the engine noise. The only thing I figure it to be is the new 190LPH pump.*Now I had about 1/3 tank at the time and after I filled up the whine was gone. Can't determine if this really is new or not since I'm not usually out of the rig with the motor running.

Is this a normal sound for the larger fuel pump? I haven't had any CEL or signs I'm losing fuel pressure. But again the sound was MUCH louder than I've ever heard out of a fuel pump before.

Mine does the same thing, it gets worse as the pump gets hotter (lower fuel level, longer run times, and hotter days). I called URD and spoke with Gadget, he said it was normal with the higher flow pump. But, it seems to be hit or miss, some notice it, some don't. Mine still works fine so he wouldn't warranty it at the time.

It's really annoyingly loud on a hot, long day on the trail! But I have not noticed a difference in performance so I guess I'll deal with it.

Yup, they're fairly loud as the fuel level goes down. If it bothers you to the point you want to do something about it, Toyota uses a high volume fuel pump in the twin turbo Supras (same Denso brand as an OEM 4Runner pump, just higher volume).

My experience has been the exact same!

Sometimes out on the trail in the summer it is louder than hell, sitting in the drivers seat you can easily hear it over the motor and exhaust. Other times you can't hear it at all

Okay. As long as that's the status quo for these pumps, and I assume you guys have been running the injector kit for much longer than me. I was afraid of responses like "yeah mine did that for about a week before it died" kind of story. I'm currently 70 miles from the nearest anything, literally, and don't want to get stranded.

Still may track down that supra pump someday but that's a ways down the mod list at this point. If anyone has the denso part # for it please share.

For my future reference and others is looks like the supra denso part # is 195130-1020. Depening on psi and voltage looks like it will do 300LPH!

Try this...

Go to Wal-Mart, or your local auto parts store, and pick up a quart of marine 2-stroke oil with the TC-W3 rating. Put in 1oz per every 5 gallons of gas (3oz on a typical 4Runner fill up). Some people swear this helps with fuel mileage, but lots of people have reported that it quieted down their fuel pumps. On my old Chevy, I could hear the fuel pump priming before I hit the starter, and adding the oil quieted it down quite a bit.

I've never been able to hear the fuel pump in my 4Runner, so I can't comment on that. I'd be curious to see how it works for you.

Yes when upgrading to another fuel injector you need to get more fuel delivery from the fuel pump.

Just to let people know I have ran 190lph, 260lph HP, and the supra denso fuel pump in many different applications. The walboros nick name is the whineboro, its normal. They all will do it. You notice it more when pump is not submerged in fuel. Some of the whine comes from low voltage. The small power line ran to the pump only supplies around 8-10v depending on application. You can add a direct wire to the battery and get full voltage which some say quiets it down. I always ran direct line to pump because at high rpms it would lose more voltage and could cause you to run out of fuel in very HP applications.

The 190lph is good for 400+whp, 260 for 500+whp and the 300lph denso 600+whp. You don't need such a huge pump. If you run the supra pump expect fuel pressure regulator to be overrun unless running an aftermarket unit. Good for e85 applications and the denso is quiet. But they can be pretty expensive also.

They do have a 190lph, its the stock Mitsubishi evo 8 and 9 pumps. The push a good 190lph with a rewire.

Good old article, I remember reading that years ago. Ive done a lot of turbo work on Mitsubishi's. Good old diamond star power, owe how I miss it.
