Field Monitor Unit Install questions

I have been through a dozen threads on the subject and have two questions I cannot answer.

1) my unit only displays baro/altimeter, no temp. Mode button only affects altimeter mode...any ideas? Is this just a different version? Yes, it is wired up and hooked up to a probe.

2) unit does not dim with the dimmer adjustment. I tagged the green wire on the dimmer and all other lights hooked to this wire dim. I read in one thread it may be because I have installed LEDs...is this it? Something else?

Take a better picture of your unit, but on mine the temperature is its own section, and the baro/alti is below it, cycling through via mode.

As for the bulbs, they actually are dimming but it's basically worthless (look very closely when you toggle your lights and you will see an incredibly minor dimming). Swap out to #2722 bulbs (T1-1/2), and you'll be set.

Mode on mine only changes altitude. (high vs height ascended, from memory).
They don't Dim with LEDs. looks much better with factory replacement bulbs.

Mine is factory fitted (96), so I'd say its fair to say "that's how its meant to work"

Not sure about the temperature reading, didn't facelift trucks have it elsewhere, so it was removed from the field monitor?

Find one from a Subaru Forester and fit it in the 4Runner/Hilux mounting surround. It'll be in F and feet. The Subie units will mount into the DIN locations just fine if you'd want to go that route instead too.

Only "issue" is the picture is a tiny car

Looks like it will require a fair amount of modification.

I'm torn. I prefer hPa for pressure, but I'd like *F for temp. Hmmmm...

Question, I was able to find the same FMU without temp display just - Baro/Alti/Compass and single button sunroof operation, it's on the way, I have some pics, perfect colour and match for my 99 LTD since it has the temp display in the climate control and the sunroof connector should plug right in. I was then asking myself do I need to find the proper "temp sensor" for this since it doesn't display temp sensor, or is the temp sensor dual purpose utilized by the Barometer?. I was hoping to skip the illumination dimming with headlights on (like how the clock and gear position dim with headlights on for night vision) and temp sensor obviously, so Ideally I should only need to run 12v ignition switched, speed sensor down the pillar and maybe a 12v illumination(you would think it would illuminate using the switched 12v, and the illumination connection is only for dimming it at night)?. And the constant 12v, and ground would come from the Map lights. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a different "temp sensor" utilized for the barometer only FMU's. Maybe I should start a new thread since this is a bit old, but I see the Original poster did use the "temp sensor" but he has no temp?
Edit 83482-35010 ambient temp sensor, hopefully it's the right one for non temp display FMU's, and now thinking about it a barometer won't work inside so the "temp" sensor must be dual purpose, looks like I'll run the extra wires and pick up the temp sensor.. Anyone with a new Hilux with temp in the climate control and no temp in the FMU care to peek under the hood and take a picture of the "temp" sensor(s)

^why?, I realize they seem to be coming from Russia and Japan typically, but I found one in Canada someone had for sale as they had no sunroof, win win for me since it was already on this side of the planet, mind you I had to pay for it still..

Cause I would spend a lot of time searching the Japanese auctions and by the time I paid for the auction and all the shipping fees there wasn't much to be made off them to justify the time spent. I don't have a business, I was just grabbing them cause for a short while it was fun :/
