Field/Off-Road Jack, Lifting Options

Howdy,


I have some more serious off-road plans in the coming months and don't like the idea of relying on my 4-ton bottle jack as my only lifting option. It works fine with a block of wood and a jack-stand at home but I am liable to get in more awkward circumstances.

I considered a High-Lift but those can be tricky and I don't see any good lift points on a stock T4R. I yanked my running boards off and was considering sliders…I suppose if I got real solid ones those would work but those won't be for a while. Would those be an option for a HL jack?

Floor jack seems like a bad idea on the trail but I never tried.

Then there's brands to consider. Seems everything is the same cheap made in china with a different label and paint…… I'll pay top dollar for a solid non-china jack; say up to $150 top dollars anyway.

I'm thinking a larger bottle jack the best option..

I think that a Hi-Lift is most useful for off-roading (it can be used for several things), but it is pretty difficult to use for lifting on a stock truck. Sliders (quality ones anyhow) can be used as a lift point, and most aftermarket steel bumpers can as well.

Honestly, your bottle jack and a board (for under the jack) is probably the best combo out there without high-lift jacking points. At least you know it's made in Japan Just jack from the axle or lower control arm and you should get enough lift out of it to get your tires on and off.

I have seen people in the desert racing world build a custom skid for a floor jack (so it doesn't sink into the dirt) and mount it to the frame under the truck, but that would require more fabrication than just welding on some sliders and carrying a high-lift. Also a lot of weight.
