Hey you get my vote for the 96-98 bumper.....so whatever happened to that tacoma bumper you were allegedly getting for free...any news on the fitment?

The Tacoma Bumper fell through! The girl that was supposed to give it to me, ended up making me wait 4 weeks, so I decided to tell her to forget about it! I figured, as much as I like being different, I'd rather just go with a 4Runner bumper. Now I'm just waiting for all my bills to clear from X-mas, and then find a deal on the bumper!

Still waiting on getting my new bumper. I've got a few more days to make sure some bills clear, and then I'm going to go Shopping! I'm hoping to get slightly used bumper, and just refurbish it.....I'm going to be cutting up the lower valance anyway to install the driving lights, and would rather cut up an old one, than cut up a brand new piece! I'm planning on plati-dipping the lower valance, and probably the rear step pad on my rear bumper, as it's pretty faded.....I'll keep the build thread updated with the changes as they happen, but progress may be a little slow, as the weather up here has been really cold, and painting stuff is impossible without a heated garage. I might try to get to my dads, and plasti-dip my stuff there.....we'll see.

It's a Westin Safari Light bar, and I got it at a local Auto parts supplier. It didn't come with mounts, as they told me they didn't make them for the 4Runner. I ended up just welding some angle iron to the from frame, drilled some holes the sise of the bolts that are used to mount the light bar, and bingo....light bar on my 4Runner! It really is easy to do, even if you don't know how to weld, just bring the truck in to any welder / fabricator, and it can be done on the cheap.

I don't have them around me right now, as they are in my garage, but got them off Ebay from American Motor Sports. Great to deal with, and fast delivery! I paid around $15.00 for the pair, but got raped with the shipping. Shipping to Canada from the US, is like shipping something to the moon!

Cool. Mine are shot, the gasket is all rotted and water keeps getting in em and they have all condensation in them when they are in sunlight. IF these look nice on your rig, i'll probably pick em up. I'm glad you decided to go with clear lenses, those ugly amber ones are too much.

To tell you the truth, I didn't mind the Amber ones! I find on dark colored rigs, they look fine. The clear ones look great on your rig, or any other light colored 4Runner!

Honestly, I mainly bought these clear ones because to buy the ambers were $56.00 + taxes (from the Stearlership). These came to around $45.00 with the shipping, and it was something different on the front of my truck!

By the way, now that you mention the gasket rot on your lights, I'm thinking I might seal mine with clear sillicone......
 
Well, today I decided to brave the cold (-25 Celsius with the windchill) and get working on my truck!

First, I had to survey the damage on my front end from my last little outing in November. For those of you who don't remember.....this happened while I was crossing a frozen stream with the truck:

Enough with the bad memories :redbrick:, I had to get started by removing my front bumper. (Thanks to the Tutorial and Documentation Reference Sticky, it was a breeze!)

Now sorry for the teaser pic, but I only removed the bumper today. I had to see if I need other parts, like the bumper brackets, or what have you....but I lucked out! Looks like all I really need to buy is the Chrome piece...should be under $200.00 for a brand new after market piece! Other than some new bolts, I should be good to go! I'm ordering the bumper piece on Tuesday, and it should be in within a couple of days after that!

A little bump, I ordered the bumper today! After staying on the phone with the Autobody parts store for 10 minutes, they told me that my $186.00 bumper, was only going to cost me $136.00! Should be at the store on Thursday morning! :frog:
 
I speak Fahrenheit, so I converted that temp and that's still -13 degrees. Props for even getting out and working on your 'Runner in those temps. Anything below freezing and I pretty much park it and go fishing or skiing.

I'm curious if you're stickin' with the chrome or going to a painted bumper/grille. hmmmmmmm. :hungry:
