So I’ve got a good for you guys.
I did the final fix years ago, no issues since until....
Last run I went on out of no where motor wouldn’t start, started doing the ole one click no start.
Replaced the starter on the the trail, nothing
During this trip my clutch was going out
So got home replaced clutch, new flywheel, new master cylinder, new starter, still nothing
Engine turns over by hand and can start it by bump starting it. I have 12-13 volts at the battery, 12 volts at the positive leading into the starter, 12 volts at the solenoid when cranking.
When I replaced the flywheel it has some good wear and small chunks broken off the teeth. So wth is going here. My initial though was thought the clutch was grabbing, giving just enough resistance that the starter didn’t have the power to turn the motor. You can hear the starter trying to turn and engage. Jumping the starter signal wire straight to the battery gives same results
Any thoughts what to check next? I’m losing my mind over it

EXACTLY what's clicking and where?
Because Toyota Parts are bullet-proof. The problem lies in the wiring that Toyota did wrong AT THE FACTORY.
I bet your 85 does not have a starter relay. Need to add one.
How does the cranking feel/sound?
If starter solenoid clucks ENERGETICALLY yet cranking is weak, pls check the batt negative to block ground cable and connection.

Puzzles me as well.
To eliminate doubt on mechanical issue, I would try cranking the starter off the engine.
Keep all electrical connections.
Bolt cable from batt negative directly to starter housing mounting hole, then try cranking.
