Finally got my lift parts!

I finally got all my parts together and now I’m ready to do the lift. I had been searching high and low for the cheapest alternative to a decent suspension lift and for all the parts needed.

Here’s the run down on the parts costs:

Front LC coils for the rear: $37 bucks shipped
Tundra 4WD coilovers NOT TRD: $90 bucks shipped
Rear OME 60027 rear shocks: $120 bucks shipped (Thanks RunningRick)
ToyTec diff drop & top plate spacers: $104.33 shipped

Total: $351.33

I also wanted to thank all the awesome folks on the forums for all your continued help and advise. Especially Sam AKA Rockdawg84, Duhockey, cj80cruiser, 99yota4 and Mauzer, for all your expert advise and help finding the right parts needed.

So some questions still linger:

Should I do this myself? I have no experience with lifts but I have the next two days off.
Know anyone in central OH that does lifts or can help?
What size of lift should I expect?
How soon should I get the alignment after the lift?
Anything else I should know about or do?
Should I wash/clean the parts? Paint them? I was thinking red coils?
Does anyone know which coilover goes where, left/right or it doesn't matter?

Thanks again to everyone for your continued help and support! :thanks:

I don't know that much about Tundra TRD 4wd coilovers but I was thinking that they would have the blue/yellow dots or blue/blue dots. I gave up my search for these last week. Is that right jrebolloso? I honestly am not sure on this.

Congrats.

First off here are a few things I noticed, the Tundra coils you have are not the trd 4x4 coils so I'm not sure if that will lift it as much as mine. They also look like they are linear springs instead of the progressive trd (yellow/yellow and yellow/blue). The Black shocks also look like they are the stock tokico's if i'm not mistaken. Second, you might have to do some trimming on your front skid plates for the diff drop will stick out lower than it was. Third, The long coil (purple/green/white) will go on the driver side. This is to compensate for the weight of the gas which is located on the driver side. I'm not sure how the OME springs will do with the flex that the LC coils potentially have. I heard that they are a shorter, stiffer shock to accommodate expedition gear. It should still work nice. In terms of the lift you can expect...I'd estimate about 2" up front with the top-outs and about 4" rear. I'd say do it yourself if you can get some friends to help. Remember for the rears, remove the shocks from passenger side then driver side (the coils should just drop out, if not push down on the drum and it will. And don't forget to disconnect your sway bars) Then installing, you want to start from driver to passenger because the driver coil is longer. Good luck!

To tell you the truth cj80cruiser, I didn't and still don't know much about 'em. I went on some Tundra forums and read up a little but I mostly went by what the seller told me and those are Tokico shocks on the coilovers, which I plan to change out for bielstein at some point but they only have less than 1K miles, so that wait's gonna be a while. I still doubt they were TRD though, but $90 bucks shipped for some pretty new Tundra coilovers will work for now. They are purple/purple and purple/red. I think?

Thanks 99yota4! Think I should or could exchange that top out spacer for something larger from Toytec? I think you might be right about the front coilovers. That's a lot of info, but the more the better since this is my first time and don't wanna f* anything up and it turns pricey on me.If I have to trim the skid, should I maybe just not put in the diff drop? Thanks again!

You should trim the skid and put in the diff drop

x2 what cj80 said. I still haven't trimmed mine but i have the diff drop in because I don't want the CV boots to wear out so quickly.

in regards to the top-out spacer, i wouldn't because there is nothing bigger for a top-out spacer. You could potentially get the preloading spacer but those suck... Those give you a 3" lift over stock stuff but it stiffens up the ride alot and your coils and shocks will wear out faster. Just install the lift and see how it sits. Give it some time for the rear to settle. Mine settled a bit just from the looks of it after hauling alot of tools around recently. It looks nice! I'd get the alignment ASAP after the lift because your tires will hate you

Or hook up with a big girl in the back like discussed in another thread...should get those springs to settle. :frisky::biggrin2:

LOL cj80cruiser! I remember. I doubt my wife would approve of me hauling a fatty in the back of my runner and I doubt she's got the weight to settle those coils.

Well you guys know best 99yota4 and cj80. I wasn't looking forward to trimming though. I guess a 3" front lift will wait till next time when I got some dough $$$.

Do you think it'll look awkward with a 2" lift up front and a 4" in the rear and do you think the 2" up front will fit 33"s? Or do you think I should just spring for some front coils like the Toytec/Eibach front coils or OME's? Thanks again.

It all depends. I'm put'n an ironman kit up front that states it's only a 2" lift but I believe it's gonna lift more than that...not sure though and I'm running 33's. Actually I'm running 33's right now with stock height and a little wheel well trimming. If I were you I would go ahead and install what you have there and see where you sit. You may be good with what you have and there isn't but one way to find out for sure. Ride around like that for a while and let those rear springs settle down so you know how much more you need to lift the front to dial it in. It may be perfect as is....

yea, i have 2" up front and 4" lift in the back. It was pretty raked but it has settled a bit after strolling around with a bunch of tools in the back. 33's are not a problem in the rear, you might rub the plastic mudguards if you have those at full stuff. For the front, my tires rub on the frame when i fully turn (full lock) because the tundra rims have a 5" back spacing so it mounts closer to the frame then those "offroad" rims. Most of the time it's not a problem unless i'm making a u-turn or getting out of tight parking spaces. Like cj80 said, try it out and see where you're at. This kinda thing is a trial and error process. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It really is up to the amount of research you put in and what knowledge you obtain.

ps by trimming the skid plate i mean like just shaving off a little where it touches, it's not a big project.

Damn dude. I didn't know you went for it and trimmed to get those 33's in there. I saw your post a few days ago about it. Yeah, and once I get some wheel spacers, i'm sure that'll help.

Hey, 99yota4 I didn't know your front lift only came out to 2"! It doesn't look like 2" in the pics, I thought it was more like 3-4". Looks bigger. I don't feel so bad than. And your lift looks awesome. That's the look I wanna achieve.

Well i'm off to my buddy's garage to try and put this lift in. I'll take lots of pics and update you guys in a few hours.

Thanks again!

Sorry for the delay

It was a grueling 2 days and then back to work so I hadn't had time to update you guys. Here's the before pics and pics of the front being changed out:

Now for the rear...

Here's the rear suspension swap using rear LC coils and Rear OME 60027 shocks.

Correction, the front Coilovers are Tundra 4WD NOT TRD.

Correction, Thanks to cj80cruiser for pointing out that what I though was the stabilizer was in fact the panhard.

Thanks to cj80cruiser and 99yota4 for pointing out that the front Coilovers ARE NOT TRD but in fact just stock Tundra 4WD coilovers, which I def plan to swap out for some Tundra TRD 4WD Beilsteins in the very near future. Some " BEFORE AND AFTER" pics are coming next.
