Finally have my TE!

After 2.5 months of waiting I finally took delivery of a 2013 TE w/NAV and KDSS. It had to be special ordered since KDSS-equipped models pretty much don't exist in New England for whatever reason. I was fortunate and the ship carrying my new truck was 3 days late and missed Sandy. My dealership lost a 4Runner and 5 Priuses to Sandy, so it was a close call on mine.

The first thing I did when I got it home was wash it, clay it, and install Xpel Ultimate. I have to agree with others on the forum: if you are installing film get it done professionally. I though I could handle it but was I ever wrong :nono: Most of it is installed at this point but I'm not happy with the results. If I get a bonus this year I might have a shop strip and redo it. You can see my less than professional job in the 4th pic.

Congrats! From what I hear, 2.5 month wait is not too bad for a special order vehicle from Toyota! That must have been a looooong 2.5 months.

I like the color combo - magnetic grey, right? I was leaning towards that color when I got my TE, but ended up getting silver (which I am more than happy with) since there were no other TEs within 500 miles of Seattle.

Again, congrats - now go get it dirty!!

Congrats! I only had to wait a month and a half for mine and hat was painful. Took delivery and lifted it at 100 miles. Enjoy!!! It will empty your wallet...

Thanks everyone!

Yes, it's a Magnetic Grey. I was also considering Red Salsa for a while, but the MG is more my style in the end. Unassuming, refined, professional look IMHO.

It will empty your wallet...

Yes, I'm already seeing that. I have never modded a vehicle before but after lurking on this forum for several months the wheels are turning. I see sliders and Discovery AT/3's in the near future! Once my bank account recovers a little at least :D

Best color offered!

Agreed!

Nice!!! Looks like mine did when I brought it home.

If you are thinking of replacing the hood film you might want to take it off now so the glue doesn't bond with the paint and leave lines when you replace it.

A warning... Modding is addictive, once you start you'll always be looking at what's next and the only thing holding you back from the next mod will be paying off the last one.

Hope you enjoy your truck as much as I'm enjoying mine.

Nice rig...I too had to wait about 8 weeks for mine. Was told that it was "intercepted" from being delivered to the Mid-West.

Sorry to burst your bubble....Portland is a lot closer to Seattle than 500 miles.
Just sayin' :)

Go Jaybee -

Are you saying there are TEs in Portland? The reason I ask is that the dealer tried to get a couple (one at a dealer and one on the boat on the way to the dealer), but both were supposedly "not available".

All this took place a couple of weeks ago, and Edmunds did not show anything available closer than Redding CA.

The TE at Larson Toyota disappeared off of their web page last night (it still shows on Edmunds though)...did someone get a new "Toy"???

Ask yourself this. Of all the people who buy BOF SUV's for whatever reason, what percentage do you think actually buy one for "heavy" off road use? (Which was the goal when developing the TE vs LTD or even the SR5). I think that is the reason there are less TE's vs. the others......IMHO. Be safe and I hope your having a Happy Thanksgiving.

Hello all I was just wondering why the TE are so hard to get ?

I may be off on the exact number, but I think I read somewhere that only 3% of 4Runners made are Trail Editions. Plus, it seems that Toyotas USA allocates most of the TEs to specific reigons. From reading this forum it appears that Colorado and SoCal get a larger allocation of TEs and the midwest hardly gets any.

Here in the Pacific Northwest TEs are relatively rare. When I purchased mine the salesguy said that they were only allocated two for the entire 2012 model year.

I can understand Toyota's reasoning - 99% percent of SUV's sold are mall crawlers and Toyota is in business to sell to the masses. I gotta give Toyota credit, they have resisted the temptation to tarnish the brand and convert the 4runner to a unibody soccer mom special (aka - Nissan Pathfinder).

BTW - Most folks on this forum seem to represent the 1% of SUV owners.
