Firestone Destination A/T - Best place to purchase

You never said where you ended up getting the tires and what you paid, leaving this thread kind of pointless.

I got Destinations put on my '89 4Runner a year ago. Smaller wheel than yours. I'm very happy. I got them for $9 more each than the best online price from an independant garage. Plus he mounted and balanced them. I will probably try a Firestone dealer next time and try to get them to throw in a free "lifetime allignment."

westwind....good choice. i have been thinking of getting those on my 11 SR5. i had them on my xterra and trailblazer. i got 80k on them from my trailblazer before having to replace them. they look good and thought they performed pretty well in all conditions. right now i have the stock dunlops and they just look cheap. in dry weather, i cannot complain with them, but am interested to see how they do in snow.

I confirm that Firestone Auto Care has an aggressive pricing policy: they can price match tirerack prices (even excluding shipping) and apply their promotions on top of it. Here's my couple 'hints':

1. Negotiate over a phone on new tires. Tell them what price you can get online and ask them to match it. It saves trip to a shop in case someone is stubborn there. Also it gives you a benefit of negotiating from your comfort zone and switching to another Firestone (if case you have couple of them nearby) or calling later to speak with another manager.

2. Find a shop/manager who is willing to work with you (price negotiation is what you really need) and you feel comfortable working with them.

3. Don't trust anyone @ Firestone in terms of their 'advice'. Sometime they make up things to force you into spending extra $$$ on items you don't need.

I kept the stock tire size....planning on the 5100 level/lift, nothing big.

Install Question

Just got them installed this morning.....ohhhhh sooooo nice Love the looks of them, SO much better than the stock tires! Now that 5100 lift is really calling my name (going to be annoying and hold out for that 'official' 10+ release though). Oh, you want photos.....just keep biting your nails.....I will take some later today!

Glad you Destination ATs are working out well.

I'm heading West, southern route to NM, on a road trip this winter, so I'm following your lead to replace the Bridgestones on my Trail with the FDAT's. TireRack on the phone, vs the website, is now quoting January delivery on the P265/70-17s, so I've got a local Firestone dealer gathering them together in 1s and 2s.

As part of the install costs, the dealer wants to "service" the metal valve stems and provide new gaskets. Is this something I would even need at 16k miles?

Also, your Craigslist experience is encouraging. May take that chance and give it a go.

I'm curious as to what the charge is for this "service"?

But to answer your question, NO this isn't necessary unless you have a leak at the valve stem. Mount, balance and an alignment is all.

Photos....and I listed my 'old' 5 tires on Craigslist and they were gone in less than 24 hours!

Nice tires. Those are more aggressive than some of the pictures I have seen lead me to believe. I am still back and forth between a set of those and General Grabber 2. I guess it will just come down to where the better deal is.
