First 2500 mile Towing Impressions...

Just got back from a long Tennessee to Finger Lakes NY and back trip. Lots of long grades in VA, PA and NY. Towed a 17' Hi-Lo hard side pop-up, single axle rated at 2850 lbs from the factory. Of course, add roof air, water heater, spare, awning and various other options, more like 3200 lbs. Plus we loaded all our crap + water. I think 3500 lbs is about right.

Used a WDH, but kept the chain tension minimal. It didn't lift the rear, but was nice during bumps and having the anti-sway.

Chassis handled very well--much better than the 06 MDX I once towed this with. Felt competent. Body on frame is a better method.

Could have used more power though. Unless I revved (the crap out of) it, I felt the torque a bit low. Found myself locking out of 5th except on downhill runs (got better mpg too). 5th is really too tall and causes "hunting" (and heating).

Best mpg 17.5 (Real gas)...........Real average (10% ethanol) 16.2 to 16.5 All in all, I'm happy as I only tow 2 times a year. If I towed a lot, I'd have kept my F-150. Love driving this much more.

Didn't have the tool for it. Had a 2002 Acura CL Type S and many trannies were failing. Tech told me that the hunting between D4 and D5 caused excessive heat and that at lower speeds, to lock it out. Worked for me-never had a problem.

Our Ridgeline has a "Tow" button and it locks out 4th & 5th as they are both "overdrive". Figured it wouldn't hurt with the Toyota to lock out "O/D".

You might want to look into the airbag mod for the rear to keep it from sagging. Antman did a writeup on it. I think it's in the pinned mods thread at the top of the page.
