First Casulty of our trip!! Roofrack Weatherstripping!

So we stopped off on the coast to grab a bite at the In-N- Out (mmmmmmmm Great Burgers!)

I decided to get gas and a car wash as well ( I know I know..auto carwashes are terrible, but after the Redwood Forest, the vehicle was downright filthy!).

So we got the deluxe car wash..and popped back onto the US 101. A minute later I noticed thru the side mirrors, on the passenger side, a long piece of weatherstripping. When I pulled over, I noticed it was the weather stripping that is placed inbetween the roofrack stands. I can't believe the car wash blew it off (almost, I was lucky I noticed it was hanging on literally by a thread).

Looking at it, it looks like the weatherstripping is molded and cut to simply plop into the insert. Is this it. No glue? I took the thing off and threw it in the rear cargo area until I figure how to put it back in.

Both of mine are gone. I took a little piece of generic weatherstripping and put where the roof-rack caps are...

Interesting Fix!

I'll have to find some double sided tape to hold the strip in.

haha, mine would come off only when I went to a certain car wash. One day I was cleaning the roof and I was like oo-sh its gone. Should I put something there?

Most likely it was the big fans that do the drying at the end...happened to me once, passenger side too. Yes, you are correct, there is no adhesive, just a friction fit.

Like I said, I fabbed seals for the ends. I think the strips need to be gone. When my 1st one departed I noted dust/dirt/mud under it. From a rust standpoint I think clean, waxed and dry is better than a loose fitting scum collector... Just my 2cents

Water leaking problem in trunk driver side

My roof weather stripping came off months ago on the driver's side, I caught it and kept it in the garage until I could figure out what to do with it. I then promptly forgot it as I live in SoCal and with the drought we didn't get any rain until these last couple months. Once it started raining though I noticed a pretty significant leak in the trunk, coming from around the back side window, and I'm wondering if it's because I didn't do anything with that weather stripping that fell off? I'm hoping that doing your quick fix ideas will fix the leak, but is there anything else that might be causing it?
