I'm assuming the main advantage of the Metabo 18v cordless impact, which is listed to have 295ft/lbs of torque, compared to other cordless impacts with similar or higher torque ratings is the shorter length to get into tighter spaces yes?
The dimensions on amazon state 4x15x12, I'm guessing 12" is the length?

Yeah my snap on cordless does it all I even remove lug nuts with it

I just bought this one. It is a beast. 1100 ft-lbs of nut busting torque! I got it with a M18 Fuel 3/8 drive wrench, which is awesome as well. My old M12 would take off lug nuts, not sure what's so special about that. However, taking off a crank bolt is impressive.
I've run into some stubborn crank bolts, including one that no air gun would take off, not even 3/4" drive. That was on a 98' 4Runner with a 3.4. I used a chain wrench, and a breaker bar extended with a floor jack handle. The breaker bar was so long, it hit the underside of the hood to take off the bolt.
My mechanic who is all snap on. He said he is done buying snap on tools. After his electric impact takes a dump. He's going to get something else. Just as good.

Snap on is way overpriced. I've found tools that are just as good for 1/2 the cost including GearWrench, SK, Mac, Grey Pneumatic, and Craftsman.

I already have the batteries and charger from another Dewalt cordless impact purchase so I decided to buy a bigger and badder version. My old one only puts out 400 ft/lbs. This one has 700 ft/lbs of fastening torque and 1200 ft/lbs breakaway torque.
I'm sure it could break free a crank bolt, I just don't know if it would fit in the space between the AC condenser and harmonic damper pulley. I reckon I'll find out when I get it.

Uhh. So the dewalt and Milwaukee etc cordless impacts that cost hundreds of dollars cant remove a crank pulley bolt?

I think the issue was that some of the other brands with equal or higher torque, then the Metabo, may be too large to be able to fit in the limited space to remove the crank bolt.
I have a cordless ingersoll rand & it has 780-1100ft/lbs of torque but is too large to fit in that space.
The metabo caught my attention because it was small enough to fit in the space to remove the crank bolt and had enough power to do it. I'm thinking if it had enough power to remove the crank bolt then it should be able to remove any other bolt on the 3rd gen.

No doubt the impact I have (like Tim's) could remove the crankbolt, it is just the ability or lack thereof to get it in there (working room). SO's stuff can be pricey but it works, for the most part.
What I have heard, and seems to make the Metabo a little more unique is that the power is applied in a gradual curve, with the aid of the dial, rather than all at once, possibly breaking or shearing the bolt. I think the length is 6.4 inches but probably could be confirmed through Metabo USA.
If anyone springs to buy it, post up here.

My local tool store has the limited/anniversary edition metabo grinders in stock - gold and green baby! haha. Impressed with how far electric impact tech has come. I am still running a 8+ year old Dewalt compact 1/2" drive impact. About the same size as this metabo but with only enough power to pop off lugnuts.
For anything more than that, I rock my aircat nitrocat on 1/2" line fed by 150psi. That bastard will blow a rusted front axle bolt off like it was not torqued and had anti-seize on it.

I'll bite.....someone justify for me why I should invest in a cordless impact. Talk me into it. I want one, because tools. But I don't see how I have a use for it. I don't see how removing lug nuts is a valid and common positive to said tool. My dog can break loose lug nuts with the right size breaker bar. How tight are y'alls nuts? Whatever would I do with the 3 minutes I'd save myself by not doing it the old fashioned way?

So, i'm with you -- I don't have a ton of consistent need for a cordless impact, but if you wrench a lot (peeps like [MENTION=48234]stir_fry_boy[/MENTION], [MENTION=120071]mtbtim[/MENTION], [MENTION=123173]Jhelms[/MENTION], etc) -- they swear that a cordless impact comes into use for numerous tasks; and removing lug nuts is not the main one.
It's just more convenient is what I think it comes down to even if XYZ nut/bolt can be removed with hand tools.
