First Mod Day This Weekend! Updated, with PICS

Well, I've had my 4R for almost two weeks and this weekend it'll be getting its first mod(s). My bro-in-law and I will be installing the Daystar Budget Boost Leveling Kit and also Sirius/iPod kit for the factory JBL system. Nothing too wild, but it's a start. Next up will probably be FJ springs along with the Spidertraxx spacers, but that might not be until spring/summer, not sure yet.

If there are any tricks or tips I should know about, feel free to let me know. From looking at the instructions, it looks really straight forward.

Good luck man. Give me a holler if you need a hand. I will be at the chiefs game Sunday, but should be around most of Saturday.

Glad to see you're modding so early! It took me a few months before I started doing things like this. I just did the leveling kit a couple weeks ago and I would just suggest not pulling to hard on the ABS wire (I think it's one of the only wires running down to the braked and everything) because I accidentally tore mine, luckily the fix wasn't too bad. Also, if it's a Sport then you have the XREAS suspension which means you can't completely remove the strut assembly, so again, don't pull too hard on the XREAS line, just unbolt the bracket holding the line and you can do everything you need to without removing the assembly.

After doing the leveling kit I quickly decided to order the 1.5" rear Daystar lift (on the way) which I'll hopefully be installing this weekend as well as 1.25" SpiderTraxx to be installed next weekend. Good luck!

Zach, I'll be around all weekend too if you need a hand. Justin is helping me put my dvd/nav unit in tomorrow too, its going to be a good weekend!

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about it, we'll see how it goes. My bro-in-law did springs on his Tacoma a while back, so he is familiar with it as well. I have the Limited, so won't need to worry about the XREAS, but thanks for the tip on the ABS. When I did springs on my Volvo, I had SO MANY wires to mess with, for the 4C Suspension, so I'll look out on my 4R as well.

Zach/Justin, thanks, we'll have to hook up soon and see what you guys think. If we get stuck, I'll give you a ring/text. I'm starting out small, but plan on keeping things going in the future.

What DVD/Navi unit did you get?

Oh and I'l for sure take plenty of pics. Got a sweet deal on a Kobalt pneumatic ratchet today too, so I'm anxious to put that to good use. Lowe's has them at 50% off!

Where are you doing the install/what time? I'm not sticking around the office for long tomorrow. I turned in my resignation on Monday and they are "letting" me stick around for the full two weeks unfortunately. But, even my boss told me that I don't need to be there. So, tell me the time, I'll stop by.

Limited's have XREAS so you will have to worry atleast what I remember reading. But its not difficult. If I were you, I would go outside now and look. Look near bottom of shock, if you see a banjo bolt line, you have XREAS. Also see if you see any leaking around the shocks. That way you dont get started and realize you need new shocks.

Are the shocks known to go bad early? I'm only at 19K miles. I'll give it a look tomorrow. Shouldn't be a big deal, we'll just take our time and watch out.

We are doing it at my house, not sure what time, i'm sure i will start as soon as my headunit gets here! I cant wait.

I'd like to drop by saturday and check out the progress too if you want. A word of warning you'll want to go higher with your lift in the next couple weeks too ha ha.

Cool, I'll let you know where we are doing my install, I think we'll be at my house, but not 100% yet.

I'll send Justing a text to let me know what time you guys get going tomorrow.

Sounds good! We might have a cold beer or two tomorrow when we do the install as well. You're always welcome to come with. Here is my number too, 913-486-6493

Ah you should be good then, I doubt you will have leaks, just be patient and watch what your doing during install.

Well, with the helping hands of my bro-in-law, camdz and zstampe, the initial modding has begun. We got the budget boost installed saturday afternoon and I'm thrilled! It looks great, for now. I think I'll eventually get the FJ springs and also upsize the tires as well, but I can't justify getting rid of brand new Michellin X Terrains right now.

Thanks guys for the help, experience is a huge help for these things.

Also put on a new tailpipe that I really like, finishes it off much better than the stock.

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow, we're due for some heavy snow in town, so I might get some pics in the snow!

Thanks again guys!!!

No sweat man, I had a good time helping out. Depending how much snow we get, i might go out to the spot where Justin and I go wheeling and take some pics wednesday. Hopefully the snow sticks around until then.

Can't wait to see the pics you take.

Well, it's dirty as hell, but here is how it sits after the Daystar kit, in the snow. Sorry for the crappy EVO pics.
