Fixed the rear window center console switch

Nice, mine works with the key, not the button I'll try the same doing what you did.

yep..mine had this little turn screw thing on the side and I thought it was an adjuster..turned it and it poped out and the little fuse looks like a Christmas light.

I took it out, it is a light lol. Mine lights up at night

For some reason I thought it was a fuse..you are right, it does light up at night..sorry..noob mistake
Lol no need to apologize. I cleaned it up and still doesn't work
I'm going to clean the 'window lock' button too. Maybe its stuck in the locked position

Can you go up and down with key?
My button would go up just not down.
Did you pop the switch open? The inside slides out once you leverage the little snaps at the bottom..then there is a copper rocker in there..under that is the contacts I had to clean.

I am lucky I didnt break mine..figuring out the 4 clips at the bottom then sliding out the center is very hard to do cramped on the floorboard since I didn't actually take the button out of the truck, I just popped it up so I had about 6" of extra wire for room. New one will probably work fine after you get it in...lol
Keep the light! those look hard to find..lol

probably your best bet. My switch didn't work when I bought the vehicle. I could only roll down the window with the key. Went to pick a part, got a new-used switch and viola...worked like a charm. Take a pic of the underside of your switch currently in the truck...just to make sure it's the same. One of the switches I pulled from the salvage yard did not have the same wire harness plug.

Good info; had same problem with rear window consol switch and decided to try spraying with electrical cleaner with out removing the electrical components from the plastic casing and found the plastic does'nt react well to the cleaner, ended up having to replace. Went salvage shopping and appears switches are one of the 1st item salvage pickers go for. Found cheap replacement on ebay, works great but good to know if there are any problems in the future the switch can be taken appart and cleaned.

It probably had an acetone base, that's why melted the plastic. Try Lighter Fluid, like Zippo, a Naptha based cleaner.
My friend's T4R had the same problem. Removed the switch and the lock. Opened up the switch, and cleaned the contacts. Still does not work. :crybaby:
After cleaning the crud, the switch is too loose, like it does not center. Is there a spring inside? I did try to short the contacts to contacts to no avail. I'm going to try to swap it with the switches from my truck to make sure it's not the switch.
I read somewhere there was a Relay that might be the problem but I could not find it.

No spring, but there is little grooves the cooper plate sits in..gotta be seated in the grooves correctly or won't make good contact.
Anyone know where you can buy those little light bulbs? Mine is out it seems.

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out again.
As for the bulbs, I was thinking of using an LED. It would probably be brighter than the normal bulb. Have you tried the local Autozone, Kragens, etc?

Thanks guys, this thread made this a quick fix for me.
For those coming after me, some clarifications:
1. Easily pry the switch from the console with a knife or thin-bladed screwdriver.
2. If you pull on it a bit you'll find the connector so you can easily take it out of the vehicle and to your workbench or desk or whatever.
3. Look at the side of the switch, at the pivot point of the rocker. There's a hole going through the whole switch there. It's a roll pin of sorts. Just push it carefully out with a small screwdriver or punch. Don't lose it!
4. Now you can easily clean from the top, and reassemble.
Just did this with mine. Scraped the 20 years' worth of corrosion off of all of the metal parts, put it back together, voilà. Working rear window switch.
