Hi, I have searched quite a bit but haven't found an answer. Do the coil overs/springs and/or shocks from an FJ Cruiser (2013 I think) work on a 3rd Gen 4 Runner? On anything else? I know the rear springs work on 4th Gen. I have the parts from my bro in law's FJ and trying to cheaply lift my bro's 3rd Gen. Any advice? Thanks, Dan.

The struts and shocks are too long. But all the coil springs do work. I have a set from a 2011 FJ on my sport and I'm so far loving it.
Thanks for the reply. So, the springs fit but do they provide any lift? Also, if it is lifted, are the shocks then a workable length? I am thinking that these have about 30K on them versus my Bro's 3rd Gen that has about 170K, so should be a big improvement over the old, worn springs. Could I use these springs, new shocks, and then spacers? I would prefer to avoid the spacers if possible, but we are on a very tight budget- my Bro does not have the off road bug like I do.

I think his is a 4th gen, but I imagine the impacts are roughly the same - around 1 inch.

They shouldn't be. Front springs are a slightly different length due to gas tank being on drivers side. All 4 do work. I gained a 2" lift but had saggy stock springs. I don't advise using the fj struts and shocks. The lift you get is not long enough for them. My setup on the sport is Tundra Bilstein 5100s on the 2nd perch with the FJ cruiser springs and in the back I have the cheapest Monroe shocks money can buy with the FJ cruiser rear springs(I ordered a set of 4 Bilstein shocks for a Tundra and the rears don't work on a 4Runner). The difference is the lower mount the Tundras are about 1/2 inch while the 4runners are about 3/4 inch(translate to metric). I have 255/75/17 coopers so I measured from level ground and got 37 7/8 inches in the front and 37 5/8 inches in the rear. I don't like how level it is so I will remedy that in the future by either going down to the first perch on the struts or adding a small spacer in the rear. At the start my measurements were around 35 1/2 inches all the way around. This is my DD and will only ever see gravel roads at the worst.

Just to clarify for anyone who may read this in the future. The tundra 5100's WILL work in the rear of the 4Runner, but require you to push out the bushing they come with and put the correct size bushing in. I don't remember the exact price, but they were ~10 bucks to do this. There are lots of folks on this forum that have done it; If you search for LC/tundra lift it is fairly well documented. If you don't want to do that though, I'm pretty sure the Tacoma 5100's are a direct fit, but I'm not certain since I used the tundra 5100's.

There is a lot of back and forth on this (pros and cons both ways). Best I can figure on it is, if it feels right to you, and you think you need it, then go for it! Either way, your cv boots will likely tear as soon as you put the lift on anyways.

I didn't put one on because I thought the angle of the cv axle wasn't severe enough to warrant one. It's completely up to you though.

From what I remember about the argument. On the 3rd gen a diff drop only lowers the front of the differential, so therefore you are not allowing the backside, where the driveshaft connects, to receive the proper amount of oil in needs and it can burn out seals or something along those lines.
Ok, now I am confused again. I have read a few threads that say FJ springs will provide about 2" of lift. Then, I saw one where someone installed them and got zero lift- and these were springs from a 2012 I believe. I have springs from a 2014. Looking for a 2-3" lift and going to use Bilstein Tundra 5100s. If anyone has any info, I would like to know if these springs will lift it (2000 Ltd) and if so, how much. I was thinking I would use the lowest perch on the front shocks and would have about 2" of lift. Now I wonder if I need to use a higher perch and do I need taller springs for the rear. Anyone know about this??
