FJ Cruiser side sun visors for 5th Gen 4Runner

I've got to say - the user interface for the forum sites reminds me of BBS days. Ain't nobody got time for that.

The first pic demonstrates that the holes line up.
The second pic demonstrates the large gap, for viewing the sun.
The third pic shows it "stowed". May be fine if headroom is no issue, and you don't have a sunroof.

My first mod. Fail. Going to FJ website to sell these soon.

I figured I would just mount one to see. Did not work.

The sissy bar mounting holes line up fine. But the grip mounts with clips, not bolts. It may work with the visor OR the grip, but not both.

So, back in bush, when you're hanging on tight, try not to remember the clips. They are forshit.

So now I have 2 questions !
1) will side grip handles work and bolt up in place of our current side handles?
2) how is the plastic cover removed to access how the handle is fastened to the roof/headliner?

If you flip just the visor and not the whole thing, does it then cover the gap? And is it low enough still to work.

Seems workable but I'm only looking at pics of course

Good effort, OP. Too bad it didn't work out. Would've been a neat mod. I didn't even consider the headroom angle, and the fact that the FJ's headliner is probably molded so these will fit.

Never mind my question... I just saw how these work and you can't just flip the visor down, the whole assembly is one piece.

I was able to remove the side grip handle on my T4R today and found there is no nut fixture as is on the FJ Cruisers to attach the FJ handles.
If there were nuts behind the clips, we could use the FJ handles and visors.....
So this is definitely a no go.

I agree. This is a no go, and the side visors are sitting in my closet now. The key is in this post - no nuts to bolt to. This surprised me. I know from professional experience that Toyota is all about common systems.

I think you could pull this off with some ingenuity, maybe using some kind of spreading anchor bolt. I won't do it.

I've installed some AVR in-channel wind visors that work pretty dang well for blocking morning/afternoon low sun. I am even toying with the idea of laying a single coat of plastidip on the visors. The sun in AZ is like a lazer beam when low in the horizon.

I think you could pull this off with some ingenuity, maybe using some kind of spreading anchor bolt. I won't do it.

That is the subject, we were referring to installing FJ Handles/Side Visors on a 5th gen.

I am talking about installing FJ side handles on a 5th Gen T4R, in place of current side handles.

You stated it can be done using jack nuts.....
Have you done this on a 5th Gen T4R and if so, can you show us the photos of using them and installing FJ Cruiser Side Handles?

Sorry, no, I haven't installed or intended to install the visors. Just replying to a post where it's said that there are no threaded holes to bolt to.

Have you installed any pop jacknuts in a 5th Gen where those spring clips are located where the side overhead handles are affixed to?

If so, can you post a photo of them installed?

Correct, I haven't installed either. At the time, I though the old grey gx470/4Runner overhead handles where a better match than the FJ ones so I didn't even measure the FJ handles.

Yes, I have. When the stock handle is removed, all that is left is two square holes in the headliner and the body.

Ok, now we are getting somewhere!
Did you have to add anything other than the jacknut (like a washer somewhere) and do they provide enough contact on the backside to make this a viable mod in you honest opinion?

If someone is willing to try the jacknuts and visor FJ Side Handles again....this may turn out to be a good mod!

Any takers on trying this on our 5th Gens with some FJ Side Handles?

I already have a bin full of crap I haven't installed yet. Anxious to see the results!!
