FJ Wheels (Darker trail ed. style)

Just put these on and love the look. They are the same style as the stock TE wheels but a little darker in color.

1 major problem though... Now I'm greeting a crazy amount of rubbing!

I have a trimmed liner already from the previous set up and had no rubbing (with the 7.5" wide Tacoma wheels and spidertrax spacers). So not sure why I now have rubbing in the back of the front tires at full lock in reverse. Im sure the offset is different since they stick out about 1/2 in more now but how could that cause rubbing on the body mount? Looks like even if it were back in 1/2" it would still be rubbing back there.

Any ideas? I'm guessing they screwed up the alignment... But if a body mount chop is neccessary now... Anyone know how much that costs?

The offset is likely different from the Tacoma wheels, but the offset is the same as the SR5/Trail wheels. You should not need a body mount chop. I have the exact same wheel and tire combination on an Icon suspension with no rubbing issues. What upper control arms do you have?

What are your caster settings now?

The Tacoma wheels probably had 5" backspace and your FJ wheels have 4.5 so it pushed the wheels outward 1/2" .
With the 1.25 spacers on it and the extra 1/2" it pushed the center of the steering arc outward .....where the body mount and fender are closer and it now rubs.
Take the spacers off or get more positive caster as that pushes the wheel forward in the wheel well.

Thanks Harper, I'll check out the caster settings tomorrow but it looks like if it were pushed forward anymore, then I'd be hitting the actual fender. It's already very close, but it's the inner fender part so that would still be easier to cut than the body mount.

I am going to need to do the body chop now after adding spidertrax spacers this week; same wheel/tire combo as you Will, except I am running Camburg uniball UCAS's that can't be adjusted as much as the LR ones. Seems like the chop should be really simple.

Total Steer Ahead - 0.02

Toe - 0.05 & 0.05
Total Toe - 0.10
Total Steer Ahead - 0.00

Now there is no rubbing on the body mount, so just need some more hacking to the fender liner (and small lip of the actual fender) then I'll be all set.

You want +4* caster. Get some aftermarket UCAs like Light Racing and you should be golden.

Different alignment shop this time... went to a place that had a 3yr deal for $79 so I can keep coming back if needed later on.

Yeah, I've got the liner pushed/relocated as far as it'll go. Also had already cut a bit of the liner before to fit the tacoma wheels with 285's. There's a little bit of the fender lip exposed from pushing the liner fwd, so I'll need to trim that down since it's catching a bit.

All set. Think I'm finally done now after going through 3 different Toyota wheels (Stock SR5's, then Tacoma Wheels, then FJ's) and 5 sets of tires (Stock Bridgestones, Firestone Destination AT's in 265/70/17, used BFG MT's in 285/70/17, used BFG AT's in 285/70/17, then Duratracs in 285/70/17).

Here are more pics to show the gunmetal color of the newer FJ wheels:

And this picture shows the trimming done to the fender. Just the little inner edge that was catching:

If you are still rubbing on the body mount you could always pull the wheel spacers off since you have wheels that are the correct offset now.

And no there's no more body mount rubbing Mike. I'm glad I didn't have to ditch the spacers since I really like the stance of it right now. Without spacers, the 4Runners with trail or SR5 wheels always seem to look funny to me being tucked in so far.
