Flashing "maintenance" light

I read in the manual that this is the oil change reminder (for vehicles sold in the U.S.), but I just had my oil changed last month and have only put roughly 1,000 miles on it since. Does anybody know if the light flashes for any other reason?

EDIT: It flashes for about 5 to 10 seconds after I turn on the truck and then it shuts off

they prolly just forgot to reset it after changing the oil...lemme see if I can dig up the tsb that tells how to reset it...
 
The car doesn't know when the oil's been changed, so it just flashes the light at the set interval after it was last reset. Just follow kglueck's link for instructions on how to reset it. You'll have to remember the change the oil 1000 miles before the light goes on again though since you've already driven it 1000 miles after your last oil change.
 
I just put a post-it note in the manual page that has the directions. I can never remember the correct Kabuki dance required to reset the light.
 
Does the light need to be on to run the reset sequence or can you reset it after the oil change with no light? Thanks in advance.

Supposedly, it gives you 5000 miles from whenever it's reset...

The reset function will work at any time, don't have to wait for the light to blink. It simply sets the internal counter back to zero.

So is it nearly as hot up there as it is down here? We've been hitting anywhere from 100 - 105 degrees every day! :eek2:

heh. it's not been quite that hot...before this last cool front came through, we were up in upper high 90s and barely low 100s for a bit. I think officially we've only had a few 100+ days, but w/ heat index and the humidity from the gulf, we do hit the 110+ heat indexes a bit. :cool:

Just one quick question. I know the maintenance light comes on to remind you to change your oil at 5000 miles. Mine came on today at 4557 miles, I don't have 5000 mile yet. It does the same thing though. Flashes a couple times then turns off. I'm pretty sure it ias telling me to change the oil, which I already did. But why would it come on at 4557 and not 5000 like it is supposed to do??
 
the manual explains it best...I'm going from memory here...

it has a couple of modes of operation. basically when it's just flashing and then turns off, it's warning you that there is an oil change that is pending within X amount of miles. 50? 100? dunno look at the manual. Then I think it switches to flashing and then stays solid when the car's running...that's after the 5000 have been passed. so yours is still operating normally. ;):
