Flashing TPMS Light Fixed

I've had the flashing TPMS dash light since buying the 4Runner. I assumed it was a dead battery in the wheel sensor and just ignored the dash light.

Then I bought some new tires. After installation the shop owner spent about 20 minutes working in the driver's seat. I had no idea what was going on. When he finished he said that the TPMS sensor had probably been replaced in the past and that there were "multiple registrations" in the computer.

So the TPMS light was now off! I've never seen the dash with no lights illuminated

I pulled out of the shop and suddenly the vsc/trac lights light up

When I got home I did the zero point calibration, and now, for real, NO LIGHTS IN MY DASH

So if you're really good with OBD-2 you might be able to fix a flashing TPMS light like my tire guy did.

Since you mentioned registration of IDs...

Each TPMS sensor has a unique ID number that needs to be registered to the the cars computer system, for communications to be established.

To upload the TPMS IDs, a TPMS scanner (which connects to the OBD2 port) is the easiest way I know of to communicate this info to the T4R.. :bowl:

Depending on how old your truck is, the batteries in the sensors may be dead and that is the most common cause of the TPMS light flashing. Autel makes a nice TPMS meter that can check the sensor state and reset the TPMS light in most vehicles:

For $229 US, you are probably better off to find someone with one to test out your vehicle

I purchased one of those about a year ago. Works great. Used it on a few different cars to read and also replace the sensors.

Or buy a $35 cable and use techstream (as well as have sooooo much more capability) to reprogram TPMS ID's. Or remove sensors and short the lamp wire to ground at the TPMS controller.

But can you scan the TPMS Sensors with that TechStream solution?

I use an Autel scanner, which can read TPMS sensor battery level, let alone being able to read PSI without touching the vehicle. I use that, and Torque Pro for DIY diagnostics..:nerd:

Yes it is the Toyota software capable of reading anything the dealer can do!

I have no idea what the dealer Toyota Techstream can do...
So I am asking, can the Techstream solution you have, scan a TPMS sensor for PSI/IDs without connecting to the vehicle (OBD2 port)?

Just wondering?
I need to check sensor data on wheels not installed on any vehicle, every so often. :suspicious:

Mine blinked all winter. I just moved my BlueTooth mic in front of the light. As soon as it warmed up, it stopped blinking.
