Flashlights

Kinda random but a good flashlight comes in real handy in a variety of situations. Camping, 4 wheeling, working on your 4runnner and various other situations. So whats your preference/experiences with different brands. I personally own two streamlights one for work and one for home(used to be for work but was replaced with new model) and both have taken quite a beating, especially the one at work which is the HL model and is the brightest light I've ever used. Both have stood up to the rigors of automotive repair and have proven to be worth the cost and the battery usually lasts almost a full 10 hour day. This depends of course on how much I use it and how long it stays on in my back pocket, lol.

Work issues me 5.11 and streamlights... never been super happy with either but I didn't pay for them so I can't complain. I have my own Surefires I bought. I'm happy with them. Stick with any of the big name brands and it's hard to go wrong.

I'm a flashlight nerd!!

When I did search and rescue, I was with a county that allowed night searches to happen, and so flashlights were a must. That was ten years ago and now they are way more better, right!!!:banana:

My all time favorite right now is a preon 2 by 4sevens! It rocks with just two
AAA batteries I get a light that throws a wall at 40 feet and it's no bigger then a pen. I learned to group my lights into one particular battery when on hikes, it makes life easy and AAA covered my headlamps and my preon 2 which I have one in just about every place I can think of. For more convention light you just can't beat ryobi's xenon light that runs off the drill batteries. They are around 50 bucks and are stupid bright especially paired with the lithium batteries. I used to be a stream light fan but now I'm onto the maelstrom lights from yes once again 4sevens, they are around the 100 dollar range but blast 2,000 lumens into the night and are pretty tough to boot. The only thing I don't like is the older models had Rechargable batteries you had to remove to charge but the new platform has a USB port that is around the collar of the light and just makes a truck application easier I think.

One of the things I prefer about the streamlight is the piggy back charger set up so I always have a charged battery and it came with a 12 volt adapter set up for a car charger. I guess I'm a bit biased towards the streamlight but the new "mac" flashlights the tool guy has been pushing look shockingly similar to the surefire flashlights and they are freaking bright and have a usb charger input. Oh and 2000 lumens is a crazy amount of light I may have to look into that light.

I have the earlier model that is the same size light and battery just better something in the newer one I guess. But my old model gets 1600 lumens out the front, and now the new ones get 2,000. Let me just say for the size it's nuts the light is probably no bigger then two D cell batteries stack together. I really like 4sevens, never had a problem that they didn't fix and like I said if you get the preon 2 it will become a every day carry just because.

Hard to go wrong with a Maglite. I know it's an old design and there's better stuff out there, but I've had two 4 cell Mags and a Solitaire forever. They do the job and just won't die. I'm a big fan of Fenix flashlights. Tough exterior, good illumination and throw, multiple settings. Good variety of lights as well. Something for every need/want. Like hearno said, you can't go wrong with the big players in the flashlight game.

X2. Ive had several Surefires over the years and they were all great, but the Fenix lights are better in my opinion.

Ive been carrying a PD35 in my work bag daily for the last couple of years.
I have a TK35 that I keep on the night stand.

Another Surefire fan. For headlamps you can't go wrong with Petzl, I keep one in my glove box.

+1 on the Petzl. I've got 4 and love everyone of them. The new rechargeable/programmable ones are awesome.

I've got a Streamlight Protac 2L, can't beat the amount of output for the size and price, the High/Low/Strobe function and ten tap is really cool too.

But mounted in my 4Runner I have an old style pre-LED 3D MagLite, can't beat a proven reliable design. BBought it at a yard sale for 1$.

I like the Halo i got from TotalAutomotive, car charger,wall charger, very rugged, and puts out blinding light.
