fluid change, dealer price ?

I just got a price quote from my local dealer to lube all grease zerks, and change the engine oil,(full synthetic) filter, transfer case, and both differentials.

$344.00

Am I nuts, or is that absolute hi-way robbery ?

The engine oil change is $72 including, oil & filter. Which, I'm OK with.

Should I call them back & say they made a mistake ?

My dealers only charges $55 for everything that you have mentioned including using Toyota's synthetic oil. But my first five oil changes and lubes are FREE. Just had my oil changed and the propellor shaft lubed at 1,000 miles. Total cost to me $0.00 (aside from the $38,000 I paid for the vehicle, lol).

Had my 60K mile service done two weeks ago by the dealer. I changed the front/rear diff and t-case gear oil myself at 30K miles (I also grease the driveshaft every 5K miles). I asked the dealer what it would cost to get these done and it came out to about $350. I told them I'd do it myself. I think I spent $80-$100 total for all the supplies when I did it. Took me about 1 hour to change all fluids. Will be doing it again in a couple weeks.

I've never done these things on my previous vehicles so trust me when I tell you to do it yourself, you'll save money and it's easy to do.

Not to add more fuel to the fire but my dealership gave me the first five services free of charge too.
It wasn't explained to me when I signed but I went back there with a question about a month after I bought it and while I was talking to the service manager he told me about the first 5 services are free.
Going in soon for my 5K service.

I should have been more specific. I am not doubting that your first 5 oil changes are free. I just don't believe the poster who said, " my dealer charges $55 for EVERYTHING that I have mentioned ". There is NO WAY possible that any dealer will do BOTH differentials, and the transfer case fluid changes for $55 total.

Also, I found another local dealer who will do everything that I want done for $240, saving me $104.

Toyota of Dallas quoted me $89 for each diff and $129 for the t-case. I told them thanks, but I would get it done elsewhere. My friendly Christian Brothers Automotive said they would do it all for a lot less. Guess where I am going?

That's awesome, then. The factory recommendation is 10K, so for Toyota Care they usually follow that. Your dealership is definitely the place to go, then.

The only reason I didn't change my own oil and paid my dealership to do it at 5K is because it costs $55 flat and it would've been more expensive to buy a filter and the synthetic oil myself.

I was also told this when I bought mine and the dealer I bought from also issues a separate maintenance schedule book (which also states every 5k) along with the OEM book. When it came time for my 5k service guess what...yup only a tire rotation and an argument!! No oil no filter no nothing else besides greasy palm prints on my wheels all of my wheels:redbrick:
I've bought 4 new trucks from this dealer over the years along with a few accessories for each of them, now they will probably never get my business again!

Sorry for the rant but point is they'll tell you anything to get you to buy it but most won't keep their promise. I certainly hope your dealer does.

I've got a case in for this with Toyota. My coupon book doesn't say "complimentary maintenance" it says "PREPAID maintenance plan"

I'll keep you posted, the dealership even put a reminder to change the oil at 5K in the top corner of my windshield, as for it being free we will see.

I don't know whether or not it's just me, but I really hate that sticker. How hard is it to remember when you need an oil change?

Paid something like $500 for my 30k at the dealership. Was in a rush. Not gonna do that again.

I would be extremely surprised if a toyota dealership will touch your oil before the recommended 10000 miles. They will "service" your rig at 5000 miles but that is not going to include an oil change.
