When the container arrives at the American port, what happens next? How do you arrange to get your products shipped to your address?

Need more details to answer that question. Did you use a freight forwarder? Are you shipping autos or auto parts? Did you already full out customs information? So many questions

Do you have a customs broker? If it's a full shipment you only have a few days to clear customs and get your container out of the port before you start accruing storages charges. You must also pay all the port fees to get them to release it. If it's been released and is sitting in someone's storage yard I would assume it has cleared customs but is now waiting on you contacting them for transportation. But making sure you clear customs in a timely matter is probably rule number one.
If you are floating the idea and have not shipped anything yet I would strongly suggest using a freight forwarding company. They do this everyday and can help you through it. You do get what you pay for in that industry. If you want your stuff in a timely manner then pay a company that has a good reputation. You will need to find one that does personal effects if this is not for a business. Hope this helps
