Im just curious. with the match dsp, is it to suppose to be used with the stock headunit and harness?

From the research i’ve done, doesn’t your 4Runner have 6x9 in the front doors like most, if not all, of the Toyota Truck platforms? If so I would think that the IS690Toy would be a viable solution for the front doors and dash speaker locations. Since you do not have the JBL system, is it safe to assume that you only have the lower speakers in the rear door and no tweeter? The Integration kits that we offer are specifically designed for front application, and while they might fit and work in rear applications, I cannot be 100% accurate.

if the 5th gen are like the 4th gen, then the rear speakers are not 6x9 they are 6.5 coaxials. the fronts are 6x9 with a 2" tweet.

Yes, it is supposed too. I am confused now as i just had a chat with Crutchfield and the rep I chatted with said that the PPAC37 harness does not work with a 4runner BUT that is the one that Helix says to use.
At $50 for the harness, I am not sure I really want to be the guinea pig to try it out if they may not take accept returns.

New '15 TE owner here -- about to try the install this morning, based on Landy's recommendation. Fingers crossed!

Installing in a '15 TPE
Hi folks,
Just thought I'd share a bit about my experience installing these yesterday.
Overall, the Focal speakers sound great; crystal clear--though as someone posted in another forum, the bass is not as prominent on some tracks. Oddly enough, on others (like Skrillex's Scary Monsters) there is absolutely nothing to complain about. There might have to be a compact sub in my future. It also feels like I have to turn up the volume on my HU pretty high (35 or so) to get decent volume, but that could be in my head.
The install was super-easy, but there are a few things I learned along the way. This was my very first car audio install, but I like to think I'm a handy guy.
TOOLS:
I mostly followed the instructions on the master sheet from Crutchfield. Did the tweets first. They worked exactly as described, but with a couple of gotchas.
Plugging in the units was super-easy, and you can hear the difference right away if you turn on the vehicle.
The 6x9s in the door were even easier (exactly as described in master sheet). A couple of learnings:

- Ratcheting drill (this one was a surprise)
- Vise (also a surprise)
- Definitely a second person (not a tool, but will help you get the doors back on)

- They are pretty strong magnets, and they like to attract metal parts, which will tear them.
- You'll need a ratcheting drill, and a vise, to get the brackets from Toyota to separate and make room for your Focal bracket (see pic attached below)

The 6x9s in the door were even easier (exactly as described in master sheet). A couple of learnings:
- Of the three screws you have to take out of the door, one is silver. Remember which one.
- You'll need the extra screws (black long ones) that Crutchfield sends outside of the kit, to attach the 6x9s
- You won't need the corded adapter; just plug the Toyota harness right into the speaker bracket.

Did anybody replace the lift gate speakers when they did the 690TOY up front and if so what did you use?

I'm happy with mine. I still plan to round out the whole system, but the stock HU paired with these is definitely acceptable in the meantime.

Thanks, I am going to run by the shop and make sure they would fit. Going to add an amp and sound proofing at the same time as front and rear speakers, so it should be pretty good after all that. Down the road will probably get a box built and add a sub.

I put the nut in my vise and turned out the bolt with a regular ratchet
Non JBL 2016 SR5
I bought the component system from Crutchfield and they sent it with an extra box of brackets and screws just in case. Obviously this will fit the 2016 as i found out through my install. It was honestly the easiest install I have ever done. The speakers sound much more clear and they sound like they have a much better audible range. I can tell that they could use more power though, which is something I might invest in in the future. (WARNING: The magnets on the back of the tweeter are impressively strong. during my install the tweeter sucked on of the screws from the dash out of my hand into the cone and destroyed it. Crutch field was gracious enough to replace this at no cost). Definitely worth the $299.

I went a little different direction with Infiniti Kappa Series Components up front, then ran the coaxial speakers in the rear doors and the rear hatch. Added the kenwood 5 channel reference amp and a 10" shallow kicker sub. Amp fits under the passenger side rear seat and the box is next to nothing (size wise) in the back. I left extra wire attached to it so that I can move it around or disconnect if I need the space. Also ran a bass knob to control the power to the sub as needed. I have yet to play a song that distorts and I have yet to get to a point where I wish it was louder. The sound is incredible and was well worth the entire install. The guys at Sound City in San Diego did the install and gave me great prices on all the speakers and amps.
