So, I figured that it was about time that FoG and I started our own thread here with trip reports (pics and vids) of our outings. I'll try and dig up pics and info from previous wheeling trips. My main reason for this is to show the capability of our rigs and alike rigs with certain modifications. As FoG and I upgrade out runners more and more and get better at driving, we are pushing ourselves and our runners more and more. It's time that we get all of our junk in one thread

I really was joking when I said we needed a Bill and Jon's excellent wheeling adventure thread. I guess since we wheel these things so much, this thread was inevitable.

Although I do think it would be cool to keep the Colorado Natives updated on the trails and also to give those coming out here some ideas.

I'd also like this thread to be know as "There is not a damn thing wrong with the 3.0 V6" thread.

So... I'll make the first trip report of my first wheeling trip in Colorado. I was here for less than a week before FoG and I went up to the mountains and found some trouble.

June 6 2012 (No specific trail, just driving off of Old Stagecoach Rd)
The trip started at the house where Bill met up with my wife and myself.

One of the great things about being here is that we're only a few minutes from some really good 4-wheeling and some great scenery!

This was my first time wheeling in the mountains here in Colorado and all I can say is what a dump! This country here is so god awful and hideous! See for yourself

There isn't too many pictures, I need a new lens for my camera and Bill was having too much fun bashing around the mountain to take lots of pics. Its cool though, we did get a few poser pics

June 13 2012 Eagle Rock TrailDamage.com - Eagle Rock

This was my first attempt at this trail. It's an awesome trail but with some near bald tires and a rookie driver, I couldn't make it very far. I probably made it about 10%-15% of the way up the trail.

I tried a couple different lines but every time I ended up sliding right back to that position.

There were two other jeeps and FoG was there as well. I don't have any pics of FoG's rig on this trail but I'm sure he has some.

Believe it or not, no pictures. Eagle Rock can be a bit%H for the inexperienced. While I do believe that a stock vehicle could do it, it is not reccomended. This was attempt #1 and we had a broken brake line, and overheated engine and a VERY large secton of rebar in my tire. Not a good day overall.

There are a handful of other little trips here and there but the next major trip was on June 23. We had an awesome day in the Rainbow Falls area with a few guys from this forum.

BTW: It's good to know that even the 2nd gen guys can appreciate an awesome 1st gen!

The goal of today was to just drive to the mountain and go putz around and explore. There wasn't any real place that we intended on going. We found some cool trails with some cool descents and climbs. It was an awesome day for all of us.

Backing up for about 1/4 of a mile because the trail came to a screaming halt with a nice drop off the side of the mountain.

What the picture doesn't show is that I couldn't make it up the rock face. I tried a few different lines but the tires kept ending up in the dirt and just spun. One day I'll get lockers and obstacles like this will be a breeze!

Sure, Bill--slap a 3000 lb. trailer behind it and see if you feel the same (LOL)! My last drive over the Cont. Divide says VERY differently, as tiny little econoboxes buzzed by me over and over. It's a good engine in its own right, but not pulling nearly two tons of truck--it would be great in a small sedan.

Aug 20th
The next day FoG and I went back out to Rainbow Falls to play around on some trails that whooped our butts the last time we went out. We first spent some time on MOAB Hill. Last time we hit up moab hill, we were able to drive down it but not up. well, we fixed that this time but didn't get any pics of video for proof. We get too wrapped up in wheeling to get pics and vids sometimes. We need to work on that!

FWIW: A lot of engines would have issues after that much of a mud bath. I don't think the design of a 3VZ has anything to do with it.

I made it up there just fine.

The Mt Rosa Area off Old Stagecoach Rd. is gorgeous once you get far enough away from Old Stagecoach. There are trails and obstacles for drivers of every level. We will have to go back. There is a hill climb that I am dying to try.....or I might just die trying.


We do a lot of the trails off Old Stagecoach Rd. in Colorado Springs. Stagecoah itself is is HELL. Dusty road that is riddle with wash boards, traffic and blind turns. If you can put up with that to get to the trails, you could wheel everyday and never hit the same trail twice. TrailDamage.com lists Eagle Rock, Saran Wrap and Mt Baldy, but there are litterally 100's of available trails in the area.

Stay tuned! We're going back to the rainbow falls area tomorrow. We need a more mild day of wheeling so we can get the women to join us. Fortunately, our wives get along well so they can hang out while we're wheeling. But it is nice to have a mellow day on the trails and bring the wives.

I made it up there just fine.

I think you would have had a hard time getting up that with your previous setup. Heck, I made it up that area without any issue today too. I think we need to start gearing towards carnage and independence :guitar3:

haha... I didn't say we're going to do it tomorrow, but eventually. I'm going to set a goal of by the end of next year. I think that's doable. in 12 months time we will conquer that trail
