Next is a brand new one then I will have had them all. In all fairness, the 4th gem was a sweet runner but it got traded for my tundra to tow the 1st gen because I wasn't planning on keeping it street legal. Bob, your second gen was sweet but after driving it, it was just too tall for my liking and I regret selling my gray 1st gen. I really didn't want to out the work into the 85 to make it a comfy dd and I didn't see the point in spending the dough or time into it when I could buy a nice 3rd gen and go from there. I have been wanting a 3rd gen for a while but they have been out of my price range till I found this one.

I'm tired of swapping runners and I want to hang on to this next one for a long time and build it so I can go wheeling again. You live and learn I guess. I should have just kept the gray 1st gen because wth the money I spent going back and forth I could have had it sas'd and locked by now with armor all around.

Fwiw: I'm super stoked about getting this 3rd gen. I have been wanting one for a while and this one is supercharged. Every time I see the 3rd gen t4rotm come up I get a little jealous.
 
On the flip side, all the runners I have sold went to a good home except the 4th gen. that one went to a dealership but I wasn't extremely attached to that one. I wasn't too fond of the 4wd system on the newer runners. Too much electronics and the transfer case was finicky with the shift on the fly 4wd system it had.
 
That was actually my second biggest beef with my old 2nd gen Explorer - the 4wd sucked. It was the ControlTrac, which mean I had a switch for Auto, 4HI, or 4LO. In Auto mode, it would kick in the 4wd any time it detected wheelspin, which made for some very sketchy moments on slick roads until I disabled the ABS to get rid of it. Then it didn't work at all in reverse because of some kinda weirdness in the auto hubs, and it sometimes it got cranky and wouldn't go into 4LO.

I don't ever want another truck with that electric 4wd bullshittery, I'll stick with my manual hubs and J shifter.

Is it an auto or a manual? I wanna drive it in October, see what kinda seat-of-the-pants difference that supercharger makes. I'm considering one for the Wiferunner.

My 4th gen was a limited model so it was all wheel drive. The made it a great grocery getter when it was snowing and great for trail use on a whim but to shift into low I would have to stop and out it into neutral to get all the tension off the drive train. If the gears weren't lined up perfectly then it wouldn't want to shift and if I couldn't get the tension off the drive train it was a pain to get it out of 4lo. No more electronic shifting for me.

You're more than welcome to drive it in October. The seller said it was dynoed at 250hp to the wheels so it should be pretty impressive. It has the 2.1 pulley so it's running about 10lbs of boot and has the 6injector ecu kit to compliment it. The guy put a ton of work into it but the motor finally gave out at 250k miles. Ill rebuild the engine and supercharger and have a fresh power plant to start with.

Jon, I wasn't looking for an explanation, but thanks anyway--I was just razzing you a bit. Hope the 3rd Gen turns out to be all you want in a truck.

It's all good bob, I didn't want you to think that I had a mind set that your runner wasn't good enough for me. It just wasn't my cup of tea and I thought that when I got it that it would grow on me. For wht it's worth though, it was the most capable vehicle I have driven. There wasn't one single line or trail that your 2nd gen wouldn't go over without ease.
 
I don't know what to say... I feel ashamed! It's been far too long since this thread has seen some action!

I am spending the next couple days showing my runner some love. It's getting some rear brake work and an alignment then I'll be ready to add some new adventure pictures to this thread!
 
FINALLY!!! After a year since SVD sold his Runner and 4 months since I parted out the Minnow to start fresh, we were able to get some dirt under the tires. While it was fun, didn't quite go as planned.

Sammy got just a little stuck in the sand.



The 87 fell apart.



Good thing this happened on the plains instead of in the mountains.

There was a little fun to be had. SVD was able to loosen up his suspension.



 
Like any other warm breezy day in Colorado with nothing else to do... What happens? We go wheeling!

Today was a mellow day with easy trails though. I left the runner at home and took the Tacoma out. It's bone stock but still did very well and even surprised me with what a taco can do with no locker and all terrain tires.

This was the trail of the day:

We didn't get really any pictures. It's hard to stop having fun to take pictures and I really need to work on that. It's tough to have an "Adventures" thread with no real proof.

Anyways, these are kind of boring pictures but it's what I've got.




I wish I took some videos, there were a couple decent climbs.

P.S.
If you're going to take what is technically the wife's truck out wheeling then you probably shouldn't bring the wife along. The whole time she was scared of me scratching her truck or was getting upset because I didn't take the "easy" line when really almost all lines in that trail were easy.

Either way, I can see the taco getting built up a little some time in the future.

I know exactly what you mean. My wife won't let me put sliders or bumpers on "her" '99 because she's afraid I'll use them.

(She's right! :pound:)
