Fog light question

I just purchased a 2000 SR5 runner it has the holes under the bumper for round shaped fog lights how difficult is it to put fog lights on this runner?

simple.

go to junkyard and find one with fogs. your runner is pre-wired for them, you'll see the pigtails. pop out the blank covers.

1) get the brackets, 3 legged and mounting hardware,
2) steering column stalk with integrated fog switch,
3) and don't forget the relay from the fuse box

i got mine off a front end total. one bracket was ok, the other was bent and fog lens broken (they seem double pane to me). i bent it back and have had no trouble, no leaking, no burned out bulbs, alignment still adjusts. they are resilient so give them a shot even if they are beat up.

I do see the wires but don't see a switch inside so I will head to the junk yard and look for the lights relay and switch thanks for the information
 
sorry to hijack this but i have a quick question--

I just did a fat lip bumper swap on my 1998. Does anyone know if the '98 model is pre-wired for fog lights? i didnt see any blanks on my quick visual

I was wondering if those pigtails were for fogs or not.

On a 2000, the factory switch is part of the blinker stalk, not on the dash. So if you want to use the factory wiring, you really need the stalk with the built-in fog switch. It should then be plug and play, if you add the lights, the relay and a fuse. If you want to retrofit new wiring, you can use a dash switch, but it won't be from a '99-'02. It will not be easy to connect a dash switch to the factory harness--but it can be done.

^^ [MENTION=10169]TheDurk[/MENTION] is exactly correct. I have a 2000 and have add foglight to my rig. Careful when you pull your donor's foglights...make sure you get the entire mounting bracket with the light. Otherwise you'll be making another trip.

I personally went to the dealership and purchase my turn signal stalk with foglight switch. I believe I paid $50+tax for it. Most used ones I saw were worn, dirty, and rough looking, so I purchased a nice clean new one...just me.

Very easy mod. Good luck...

no it doesn't add much to the driving experience, but when you add the wire mod, it looks cool at dusk running parking lights+fogs :cool:

btw - thanks for the clarification on the switch options, corrected above

however, around here it is almost impossible to find any in wrecking yards
so might have to go aftermarket like these Amazon ones

Hey guys, don't forget we have a classified section...I spent only couple minutes looking around and found this one:

Don't know if these foglights and turn stalk are still for sale or not. I'm not saying this seller is asking a fair prices or not...I'm unaware who the seller is. Just trying to give you an example of another place to look...and help out other members.

How difficult is it to replace? The wires for the lights are zip tied near where the lights would go. I guessing the wires are ran up to where the switch would be at least I hops so

Are you asking how difficult the turn signal stalk is to replace? I'm sure there's a write-up on here how to do this. But...it's basically a plug-n-play job. Just unplug the old turn signal stalk and then plug in your new one that controls foglights. Then bolt on and plug in the foglights. Poof...you're done. Doesn't get to much easier than that. Wish every mod was this easy!!

Interesting read in the link above. I think we can all agree the fogs on these things are mostly an aesthetic feel good rather than purposeful item. Unless replaced with HIDs.

I'm stuck here, I need a reverse thread bit to remove the soft headed original screws to get to my lights. Does any one know the size of the three screws to buy in order to seal the housings back up?!
 
Sorry I don't...got rid of my OEM stuff a while ago! I'm running a ShrockWorks plate bumper with PIAA LED's now.

Hopefully someone who knows will chime in and hook you up.
