Fog Lights/Daytime Running lights

Hi everyone!

I was looking to get fog lights/daytime running lights put on my 03 4Runner. Here is a question for you:

I looked behind the bumper and noticed that there was a plug behind each, "cap," so I assumed that it was pre-wired. I then examined the 4 switches to the left of the steering column. My runner is set up as follows. The furthest spot to the left has a black plug cover in it, but behind it, it has a wrapped up available plug. The next one to the right is my diff lock switch. Finally the next two to the right are caps also but they have no wire behind them. I looked in my user guide and it says on one page that the switch all the way to the left is for an addtional power outlet or someting that I don't have. However, later in the book it shows that switch to the right of the diff button. What the heck is that blank space for and would I be able to use it to hook up the lights...and can you even get lights.

NUTHING to FEAR my new T4R.org friend! First off, I'd like to say welcome to one of the most informative forum families on the web about your 4Runner. Secondly, you'd be happy to hear that I just added this mod (DRL's-Daytime Running Lights) to my SR5 4X4 just this past weekend. Thirdly, more good news......you do NOT even need to use those blank dummy switch fills on your lower left dash. BTW, the far left button is for 120v power supply, middle for traction control, and far left is used for the something else on the Limited models (RSVC or something like that)!

The part you need to change to add DRL's to your rig is a flasher assembly part ordered from your local Toyota dealer. You can get it from $34.95-$44.95! The part number is: 81980-35020! The flasher you have in is a smaller (non-DRL one) with the number of 81980-35030! There are several threads on here about just this issue. Use the search button at the top of the page and type in "DRL's or Daytime Running Lights"! There is also link (I'll try to summon the addy later) on another sister site that give you step by step instructions. You will have to unbolt and drop down the fuse box located under the left side of the steering column of your dash area. DON'T FEAR! So, what about filling those ugly gray dummy plugs in my bumper and getting some fog lights put into them...Any ideas?

Errrrrrr.......All 4Runners are suppose to come with fog lamps as standard equipment according to the brochure. If you have gray dummy slots there; then I'd go back to the stealership and demand they install them back. Do a search on Toyota's site, Edmonds.com, or other sites to check for the standard equipment for the 4Runner. I am pretty sure that fogs were standard equipment........at least they were when I bought mind back in May of 2004!

I don't think they were standard when I bought my runner in 03.
