For 2013 Entune or JBL?

I have a trail with entune/nav and can honestly say entune isn't worth very much. Everything on screen is only viewable if your phone is plugged in, might as well just use the iphone and you don't have to worry about screens being inoperable b/c the vehicle is moving. Plus, entune is only free for the first 3 years, I definitely won't be paying money for it when it expires.

Plus the JBL has the larger screen and, if I recall, more or better (both?) speakers. Of course sound system quality involves a big subjective factor for 'most' users (some are fully satisfied with one thing that some others will point to as complete junk)...
I didn't do my normal analytical drill-down when it came to this topic. I just KNEW the Entune was no-way something I would want or use and I just wanted the best sound system and nav screen available from the factory at this point so I ordered my 2013 with JBL (still not here so can't testify yet as to quality, etc.).

Just to play devils advocate, if you plan on using an iPod to listen to music, the iPod center face will make you hate life.

I don't like Entune much, but I'd take it over the JBL only because the JBL is bad enough that I'd change the speakers as I would for the Entune. I dont like the Nav in either (I use Waze or Navigon's) app. If you plan on keeping stock, then my comments don't apply.
So FOR me, I took the Entune as the cheaper of two evils.
Just as an FYI: I have had 2 Toyota JBL systems, the stock 5th Gen SR5 system, and Entune system.
I think Toyota must have the same guy that buys their stock tires also buy the stock speakers.

Neither. Get the most basic stereo they offer and go aftermarket. Will cost less, sound better and have better nav and app features. Just my opinion.

I picked the JBL because the screen is bigger, don't know if the Entune unit is still the same size as 12 models...
My "Home Systems" have been Mark Levinson, Audio Research, Genesis and Revel, Purist and Kimber Select. The "Big" system was an addendum all its own to my First Divorce (-: (I mention this to level set the subjectivity of what sounds good)
I think the stock system in my Camry SE and the JBL 15 speaker system in my T4R LE sound pretty good. Are they rivals to my past Alpine, Jl Audio/MBQuart systems? No. But after market systems don't rival stock when it comes to convenience either.
Maybe I finally got to the point where "enough is enough" Buy it. Leave it alone and just enjoy. .... Age has its benefits I suppose.

I couldn't do the JBL system in the TE I ordered, not offered in the region. So I ended up with the standard Nav unit and 8 speakers. To be honest, I sat in 4Runners with each, and I couldn't tell much difference between the two. The JBL system had more bass, but there's a subwoofer, so there should be. MP3's and iPods sound like crap anyway, so you're starting with a handicapped system from the get go.
I'm not sure about entune, I don't even have a smart phone. My wife has a BBerry, so we'll give a whirl with hers.

Get the JBL, the entune Navigation is better, but the sounds is not all that. With the JBL you get a 8 inch sub, and fully amplified system. the Entune is not bad and you never have to pay to upgrade the maps, it works with your smart phone, the JBL use a Eclipse head unit, and the Entune version is made by pionner.
Had an opportunity to compare the entune in a 2012 and 2013 with the JBL in my 2011. The voice dial commands for a phone are much better with entune, and the display is smaller and not quite as sharp. The Entune NAV seems slower when going to points of interest because it appears to use BING. Also, enture no longer uses a CD for updates according to the sales folks. Had to justify the JBL unless you are a fine ear for music. Once your a driving with the road noise there appears to be little difference.

good observations, fraggy! I too didn't notice a difference in sound quality when driving, just more bass. In the parking lot, I could tell a minimal difference. Perfectly happy with sound quality, entune, and Nav in my '13.
My decision was also easy b/c the TE do not come with JBL in my region...
I will also say, even though I don't have an iPhone or other smarty type phone, my little Samsung works great with Bluetooth. I love it!
For a smart phone, the voice commands are much better and easier with the Entune? Does anyone have a 13 JBL to see if they improved the phone voice commands on it. Also some one posted that the NAV uses maps through your phone. I do not believe that is the case, since the NAV works fine without a phone. I think it only uses the phone when searching for points of interest through BING. It also has some internal POIs as well. Comments are based on a test drive. I own an 11 JBL in a limited.
The real question is what functionality is lost once you are no longer paying for the service. What a salesman says and what Toyota does are two different things. I would love to see and try one with the subscription disabled. If you still have basic NAV and phone bluetooth, I can live with that.

Navigation and bluetooth will still work fine. Navigation is a separate program that uses data plan for some features, but does not depend on the data plan to operate. I am positive of this b/c the navigation worked perfectly fine right off the lot before I even activated the entune acct and paired my phone to it. And bluetooth is entirely separate from the entune features, so your bluetooth audio, speakerphone etc. will all work fine indefinitely.

Raised from the dead... Another note is that even second generation Entune is still not available in the state of Hawaii. I asked the dealer if I can use it when I come back to the mainland and he said yes. I went on to register for Entune and it wouldn't even accept my VIN. A little concerning... Any thoughts? Maybe it can be accepted when I physically get back the states.
