for those of you 4th gen. owners who have had to trim..

hey guys, for those of you who have had to trim some to fit larger tires, i was wondering if you've run into any troubles? when i got my new tires, i had to cut along the following line:

but that, of course, seem to leave a lot at the bottom of the engine compartment exposed to the street and any mud/water puddles that i might have to drive through ...

i'll still need to do a little more trimming on one side, but for the time being, have you all done anything to protect the exposed parts after trimming???

Go hit up HomeDepot, look for some plastic sheets and then get some rubber/plastic glue, clean surface real good with sand paper and then cut out and stick it in.

I did that to my friends 2003 QX4 so he could fit some wide azz 20's in their, I pushed back the original inside fender and then used some new sheets to cover the gaps.

Another 1 of my friends did the same on his Tahoe but used a heat gun on the plastic sheets and roofing tar: he heated up the original fenders inside the wheel wells and then glued covered up any holes or gaps then just covered it with tar so it look OEM, my QX friend is gonna do the tar cause anyway you look up close the glued in plastic sheets look ghetto and the tar makes it mold into 1 peace, the glue with the wind looks like over time it will tear apart

no, they aren't huge ... just 275/70, but when i attempt to turn the wheel very much, it rubs. or did rub.

i know Good Times has trimmed some ... probably a lot of people have.

When I put a B.L. on my old Ranger I used old inner tubes (sp) to fill the gap above front tires. Very flexable you could fab them horizontal out of sight. Up above the section you cut our. Kind of the same idea the stock rubber that sits on the sides of the rad to protecti it from road grime and stuff. You could just drill a few holes and ty strap them down and you would never see them.

Suggestion...

Use automotive body undercoating instead of roofing tar (as was suggested above.)
