For Those Who Recently Bought a 13'...

It would be interesting to know how long it took to negotiate your price I.e. from when you first walked in to express interest/contacted the dealership and when you finally agreed to the price you are posting.

Less than an hour :wink2:

Little under 2.5 hours till I drove off the lot. It was still wrapped in plastic, inside and out, so they had to clean it up a bit. :D

Probably should have paid less but got a killer interest rate and added some rims for $2700

Over all happy with what I got

Total
$42,145.00 before all the Taxes and fees crap

1500 miles now on the rig and is driving even better.

what interest rate were you getting from toyota?

I did all my research before I went anywhere near the dealership that happened to be the closest to me.
Searched Edmunds/ KBB/ Consumer Reports for pricing information then I researched all available vehicles in a 200mi radius.
I knew what vehicles were probably available, options as best as I could figure out, and current MSRP vs "Invoice".

Walked into the dealership at ~1330 - drove out with new 4Runner at ~1830. That included 2 test drives comparing the 2x4 to the 4x4.
Actual negotiations over price took less than 60min.

Note - I was paying cash, no trade-in, no financing negotiations.

Interestingly they let me take the car off the lot with only $5000 on a CC with the promise I would mail them a check the next day!

Wow, not bad. 3 weeks for me and they barely budged on their already reduced price. Listed for $4500 under MRSP.... I got another 2k off that and basically market value on my trade when you factor tax savings. This was on a leftover '12 in March. Can't deal like you can stateside.

I paid $32620 for my 4x4 '13 SR5 with convenience pkg and cargo mats. Was listed at $36760. I went onto autotrader and printed local dealership online ads for the same model, pkg, and color. You may find some listings even include running boards and cross bars for similar prices. Good bargaining tool if you want to add them on. My dealership matched it with no problem since I had about six similar ads. This is the best time of year to buy a '13, plus the newly designed '14 is rolling out. Good luck!

Take your time and be patient

MSRP = $44,624

COSTCO pricing + 7 yr/75,000 warranty

OTD PRICE was $ 41,263 at 2.6%

13 LE w/ NAV, Roof crossbars and obligatory floormats = 41k. - 2k off MSRP - Was picky for black on black with only the above options which meant it had to be shipped from out of state. Definitely was not a screaming deal but got a fair price on the trade in and financed the balance at 1.99. This was one of those "lowest price listed" dealers. Purchased in April.

They knocked it out of the park on this one Toyota gave me 3.69% on my loan.

OUCH! Never NEVER finance through a dealer. (ClarkHoward.com) I haggled with them on the price for a bit, once I got it where we could afford it, I complained about the interest rate. They kept promising me that they beat any bank....so I called my bank (USAA) and they got me to 3.19. The finance manager wasn't to pleased, afterwards I figured they actually only made around $800 on the sale to me, however they gave me WAY more on my trade in, and I'm sure they are going to loose money when they try and sell that as well... lol

For me, no negotiations. I went through the Fleet Manager. He gave me a list of cars with the options close to what I wanted, with the lowest price he would sell it for. We told him our credit Unions interest rate was 2.24% on 72 month loans, and he said he would get toyota's financing to match it, and they did. I also told him I didn't want the floormats, so he subtracted them from the price (Even though they forgot to remove them from the car!) Oh well, they served their purpose until my Huskys came in!

This was all done over the phone/email. We just had to go into the dealer to sign the papers. Couple of hours, no haggling, no negotiations, no sales people "Calling their Manager".

Paid $34,900, MSRP was $37,500. I think I did pretty good, and it was painless. I have bought 3 new cars in the last 2 years, and the first two were done the traditional way, and took all day, was a PITA, and I didn't get as good as a deal as I did going through the fleet manager. Seriously, going through a fleet manager is one of the best ways to buy a new car, unless you enjoy playing games with sales people. I got the advice of using a fleet manager from a friend whose brother works at a dealer, and I am glad I took it!

Some quick advice for Fleet Managers....

Contact the Fleet Manager first. If you deal with another sales person at that dealership, then try to go through the Fleet Manager, they will only let you deal with that sales person, or their department.

First call the Dealership, and ask for the name of their Fleet Manager, then hang up. Call back and ask to talk to the name they gave you as the Fleet Manager. Sometimes Sales people will try to pose as a Fleet Manager. Fleet Managers aren't paid on commission, they just care about the number of vehicles they sell, so they will make the process as quick and painless as possible, and give you the best price initially. Also, you only deal with them througout the whole process (Unless you have a tradein, they you have to deal with the used car guys in addition) Granted, if you are an expert negotiator, and are at the right place at the right time, you may be able to get a better price on the car (Below dealer invoice) but that process can be a pain, and for me it isn't worth the time or pain.

Whiplash Willy, great advice on the Fleet Manager. I'll be sure to use that in the future!

I, too, used the internet to negotiate the price with the Internet Sales Specialists with several dearlers. I hate walk in to nogotiate. Once I got the price I wanted, I just walked in, performed new vehicle inspections, a test drive, and signed papers. It took me just 1.25 hrs at the dealer, including new vehicle inspections and a test drive.

13 LE, Black on Black, roof rails/crossbars, all season mats ~ 44 OTD and 1.9% financing. With my trade I had about 8 grand down so I financed 36K. Nav and JBL as well, forgot.

I checked 7 dealers over 10 weeks and I think I got a good deal.

13 MG 4R limited 4x2 (live on beach in FL, no need for 4x4 unless price was same or close)
Jbl nav
3rd row seating (it was the only one left)
Painted running boards (already on there)
Toyoguard
All weather mats
Tint

$35,504 plus 699 dealer fee and ttt.

No one else could come within $2800. Found out it was because they made me finance with their financial company (world omni) at an above market rate for a minimum of 6 months. They got a $2k incentive for that. I can pay it down to almost nothing with the first payment but have to make at least 6 payments. They are banking on the fact that people will just keep the loan.
