For those with a 2" or less lift in the front with 275's, do you ever have any rubbin

I've been a data and network analyst for most of my adult life. I've been surfing the internet since it was only text based. I remember the jokes about not being able to trust the internet and "bloggers in P.J.'s." Data analysis is what I do.

And I've found that it is best, especially when relying on internet forums, to gather as much information as possible, synthesize, process, shake it around a bit, and the truth will sort itself out. More data is better. A bigger sampling creates more reliable results. And that is how I approach things like, "what size tires should I get," or "Can I make it into Lagomarsino in these conditions?"

I still don't understand why asking too many questions is bad. I get that cross-posting excessively can be a problem, but if you're not getting any answers in one forum, why not post on another that is relevant?

And why would any forum admin complain about too many page hits or too much participation? I assume you get paid something for those ads? And maybe per page hit? So why suppress someone asking questions?

I'm not going to answer for Greg but he is right. You can the small sample in this site that has the exact same setup as the OP and in the end, nobody can give him a sure answer. I look at it this way. With the info I had after searching....I expected to move my inner fender and maybe trim the front bumper a bit.

That isn't a deal breaker for putting 275's on. If that is honestly worse case...with best being no rubbing...just do it. It isn't like the OP is asking for 35's......with 10" wheels, high offset with a budget of $500. Now we have something to discuss. :flame:

275's in the KO2 flavor is doable if your not a person that fears some work or will pay someone to do it.

Stock suspension over here. Running 275/70 Coopers. I have had them just about every which way in both directions. No rubbing.

The reason is that it makes people feel better to put other people down. Each time someone tells me to do the research or it's in the sticky they feel better about themselves because they told the new guy who doesn't know as much as them to get their shit together. Luckily, I don't really care and will continue to ask because I still haven't found what I'm looking for and I'm not afraid to ask despite people giving me shit repeatedly. Just ask yourself this, how hard is it to ignore a question you've seen 100 times? If you don't want to help, don't help. Someone else might though. If someone could possibly get the answer they are looking for, why would it bother you? It's literally one of the easiest things to do in the world. You just move on.

Instead, rather than encourage discussion amongst people, repetitive or not, and make a forum more lively and enjoyable, you get people who take lifts and modding(or anything else really) way too serious and they push people away who haven't reached the same level of enthusiasm or gained as much knowledge as them. Its an exclusive group. If people don't know as much as them or don't go about gathering the information the same way as them, or applying the information they've gathered the same way as them, they are looked down upon.

If forums were run with any kind of business sense they wouldn't have mods like that. They wouldn't allow members to be like that. They'd encourage conversation and welcome anyone they could. Just like a business. You don't turn away a customer and you treat them well so they come back for more business. But instead you get know it all's on forums. They scare people away and make people second guess asking a question instead of feeling free to ask.

Here there's a gang of people with the most experience who will all kind of come and go and push around the people who don't know as much as them and make their cute little sarcastic remarks and like the remarks they didn't make but their buddy did. It's a clique. It's similar to the one you'd find in many social environments, similar to high school.

Here's why:
The first time you ask a question, a lot of people, some knowledgeable, answer and you get a good mix.

The second time you ask basically the same question, you get less participation and some of the smart guy just browse past.

The third time you ask basically the same question, you only get the ones who didn't see the first ones.

The guys who know 4runners and are here to answer instead of ask don't mind answering once but twice or three times? No. I am here to hopefully get him to understand that nobody can assure him 100% that his tires won't rub. To understand that when you mod, it's on you to understand all possible ramifications.

Now, when I have my mod hat on you will know it. I also sign my posts -mod- when I am being a mod. I have no financial interest here. My job is to make sure the dynamic is correct and to try to keep the stupid from ruining a really good forum.

Instead of going for quantity for something like this you need to be able to discern a quality answer and stick with it. You would be surprised how few people here truly know vehicles. You would also be surprised at how many pm's I answer from people with zero posts, but have searched the forums and need extra help.

Any more comments?

I'm sorry but that's bullshit. I've never asked the exact same question multiple times. There's different variables in each of them. You make it sound as if I've copied and pasted my questions 3 different times.

What you don't realize is that I don't have the knowledge about cars that you do or most people in here do. So in my mind I dont see what you see. I don't see it as asking the same question over and over. Why? Because I probably know about 1% of what you know. Probably .5% actually. But hey, I get it. Someone as green as me isn't welcome here. That's cool. It's just a forum. Life is much bigger than that. I promise I won't post another thing on here.

Beat of luck with the forum!

Don't get butthurt. The EXACT same question that you asked has literally been asked hundreds of times by others. This is why we encourage searching. Above you can see the multiple threads asking about tire fitment that Jhalko posted.

I've owned my truck for four years and have never had to start a new thread to ask something specific... This truck has been around since 2010.... there's seven years of "research" that has already been done... but you have to look. There is rarely something "new".

It's not about wanting to "put you down". Its about filling up the 5th gen section with the same thread over and over and over again.... if you went to one of the already many existing threads, you would find the answer you seek, (which I stated in my previous response) and an entire thread of people who have the exact same setup you do. Your setup is not unique or special... there's at least 50 other dudes that have done the same thing... with the same tires. The answer will remain the same.... no two trucks are exactly the same.

If I were the mod I would have merged your thread with one of the multiple already existing threads on this same subject. Instead he let it go. Then when some folks gave you some resources, (the tire fitment guide) you got upset because you wanted an exact answer.... which doesn't exist. Then you thought we were being mean.

It literally can't be easier to figure your problem out... Its already been answered...... the answer is: Maybe.

Long story...

Why do you say they were idiots? Just so I know what to avoid.

I went in asking for 275's, and asked them to call me before doing any cutting so I could point them to the article on this site regarding using alignment and how to push the fender liners forward without cutting them.

Instead, they sold me 285's, insisting they would fit, because they do this all the time. So then without my permission, they cut my fender liners and body, removed my mud flaps, and then charged me an additional $250 or so for the extra work required, plus the employee forgot to include cost of new sensors, even though he did order them. So they cut, even though I told them not to.

Then the first time I backed out of my driveway, they rubbed on the fender liners. So I took it back and they said I would need a body mount chop to fit the 285's. Instead, I had them get rid of the 285's and replace them with 275's. And they cable tied one of the liners up out of the way, but not the other. So the next day, 30 miles down a dirt road, the other one started rubbing, so I had to bring it back to the shop again!

This time I dropped the F Bomb and demanded new fender liners, installed properly, as I'm hoping they will fit the 275's without trimming. I'm not looking at hacked up fender liners and dealing with extra mud in weird little niches for the rest of this truck's life. Maybe I'm coming on too strong, but this is my first new car.

And they sneered when I showed them the "tire sizing chart." Nor did I get a written estimate of work to be done (CA law requires this), even when I asked for same during my 3rd visit. Idiots probably isn't too strong of a word. And to add insult to injury, the shop will not rotate my tires for free (as most tire shops do), because, the owner told me, "We don't sell tires." WTF?

1.75 in. lift

1.75 in. lift on front from Bilstein 5100's running BFG KO2 34x10.50R17's and had quite a bit of rubbing at full lock. i pulled the front fender liner forward and trimmed some plastic at the front of the wheelwell and has been fine so far just driving around town and on the highway.
no serious articulation to be had around here just flat land with some mudholes.

Seems like a good admin's job also includes generating site traffic, maximizing profit for the site's owner, not just herding cats (users).

And if you haven't noticed how many people start threads by apologizing, if you think that's a sign of a healthy site, well, it's got electrolytes!

Admin maybe, mod no...

Content can attract LASTING site traffic, click bait attracts short term visitors. IMHO.

Yup.

Owned, admin'd and modded a website for years. The roles and goals are different and if a person visits a site from doing a search on a popular topic, i.e. What's the best tire for my 4Runner? And the site has a full page 1 of just that topic...that person might not find value in a site that just repeats the same old over and over again.

Then we do stickies that nobody reads, the old dogs yell at the newbs to search or read stickies, the newbs either have thin skin and take their ball and go home, or stay for the conversation and knowledge on the forum.

Yes money is important to keep the lights on but you will have people come and go and those who stick around for a while or until the interest is over or whatever....then the cycle repeats.

It's all good!:second:
