I don't believe fox has a 3" rear shock application for the 4Runner. I think some people use Tundra rears? I forget but the valving won't be specific.

You are correct, Tundra rears are as close as you can get. 3" in the rear will put the ass up more compared to 2.5" in the front. I believe 2" in the rear and 3" in the front will level out things. The valving is not specific to the 4R but it is close enough.

Not everyone loves kings color options and even if you pay more for a color change you do not have control over the entire combo.
I think Fox shocks are comparable to Kings. Fox is not some low tier shock manufacturer. lol

Well, that's definitely the first time I've heard of people buying high-end shocks, based on their color.

Look at how each mount the resi's for KDSS equipped vehicles also. I believe (and am looking since it's been a while) but Fox had no issue letting you run 3" of lift of front if you so desired whereas King frowns upon anything over 2.5" on their front coilovers (for the 4R application).

If color was no big deal King shocks would not have an option to change shock colors. For me.. neon blue underneath my Super White 4R doesn't do it for me. I don't want my 'expensive' shock setup looking like it came off the set of Fast and Furious.

Fox piston rods are 45hrc. Kings are 23. Rod damage causes leaks. Fox use Viton seals, King uses Buna. Viton is better. It's an optional upgrade for King shocks. Fox reservoir hoses are better quality hoses. Dampening is pretty similar. Internally the pistons and such are very comparable. All else equal, Fox goes a bit further for durability. Fox shocks *should* last longer between servicing/leaking. I think it's pretty much a wash for most users. - pick your favorite color

That is a good point something I have not considered, I plan to add 285's plus a bumper, winch, sliders, full skid. Also pull an off-road camping trailer with it. The extra 1/2" would be beneficial.

Thinking that may be why more people are running them here in the frigid north. With all of the salt on the roads in the winter, fox may last a bit longer than the kings. If I am wrong on that assumption let me know.
Can't you order them with custom valving? I wonder if they could be made to match as I'd like the DSC numbers to be roughly the same. Would you lose any travel by going with the tundra shock?

When I was shopping for my latest set of front coilovers a well respected shop told me that fox couldn't build me coilovers with 700lb springs, that I'd have to buy the "factory" setup and then have them swap the springs, incurring cost to me. King and Radflo will build them how you want them from the get-go. Now I don't know if this is still true, but you could always call and find out. I had fox on my last tuck and they were great, but the lack of customization and proper rear shock length for my application took them out of consideration. If you want the standard springs, aren't carrying extra constant load weight, and 2" rear is what you want, then they're a good option in my opinion.

Good luck with a Fox group buy. I ordered my rear DSCs about 4 weeks ago and was told it was at least a 6 week lead time.
And fox doesn't build custom shocks for us normal people, at least when I tried to get the DSCs spec'd for the Metal Tech LT springs the answer was buy something close to what you want that they stock.
