Fox suspension?

I'm curious why no one is running the fox suspension. It seems like icon is the choice for most of the members when upgrading. There are a lot of toytec (which I have), OME, and tons of icons, but no fox. Is this just preference or does the fox suspension not work as well with our trucks?

Went against the norm and ordered a Radflo 2.5 setup for mine. Should have in a few weeks.

I debated the basic bilstein setup with trd spring but after thinking about it and talking to folks I wanted to go one step higher. The 2.5 non-reservoir Radflo seemed like a nicely built option for how ill use my truck. I'm also doing cam burg UCAs so I'm getting the longer travel front shocks.

Those camburg UCA's are badass

I recently installed a set of of 2.5 factory coil-overs with dsc. What I will say is totally subjective and only my opinion, I like them 100x better than stock. Ride is comfy :) I just got them and have only played with the adjusters once so far. Factory set, both in center, rides great. I have yet to take them on a nice brutal washboard, we will soon see.

The 2.5 coilovers with disc where the ones I was interested in! Let me know when you get a chance to put them to the test, thanks

Foxes are supposed to ride really nice.King is the 4th and another big player when it comes to rebuild-able suspensions valved specifically for our 5th Gens. I have Icon 2.5 remotes and love my Icons too after 4 1/2 years but if I was going to buy new today I personally would go with Kings and may do so in the distant future. King Shocks Direct bolt-on performance shock kits for Toyota trucks and SUV?s from King Shocks « King Off-Road OEM Bolt-On Shocks : kingshocks.com

Kings weren't out yet for 4Runners when I bought my Icons as Icon was the first to show us 5ths some love. Here's a 22 page Taco thread and good read discussing some of the differences and explaining digressive vs progressive valving technologies between Icon,Fox and King..... king vs. icon vs. fox racing coilovers - Tacoma World Forums and another on the FJ forum.....Suspension Icon vs King - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum

At 70k miles my rear Icons seals are leaking pretty bad but considering what they have been through, and that 70k is actually alot of miles since Icon recommends rebuilding at 50k, I can't complain. My fronts however still aren't leaking at all yet and ride like the day I put them on but due for rebuild.

I just bought four new Icon seal kits and a gallon of their shock oil to rebuild them myself but the kits/oil cost alot more the King kits/oil with Icon not publishing much info on how to rebuild them. They basically want you to send them to them for rebuild but did give me the nitrogen pressures for the 4Runners remote res shocks being 250psi in the fronts and 225 in the rear piggybacks.

I've never ran coil overs before, this is merely what I've read, heard, and been advised through various avenues. Icon, King and Fox all represent the top echelon of race coil over. Icon uses digressive valving whereas King and Fox use progressive. While both have their pro's and con's, when used on a KDSS equipped vehicle it has been recommended to stick with progressive shocks, as the combined effect using digressive may be too stiff for some drivers.

There is one website in particular that has a rather comprehensive breakdown of fox versus king coil overs, comparing the design and construction of just about every single component. You all can judge for yourselves if the differences are significant enough for you.

Radflo coil overs are unique in that, although many consider them to be a step-down quality wise, from my research they likely offer the most specifically tuned performance available for the 5th gen (thanks in part to the work from Overland Warehouse).

As far as the distinct lack of Fox on this forum.. couldn't tell you. Icon seems to have a firm grip on this community. It looks like they make great products, but so do total chaos, camburg, and radflo. That said, there is something to buying a full "system" like Icon, with the reassurance that everything has been engineered and tested to work together, and some people will pay for that. As an aside, the Jeep community I used to be involved with revolved entirely around Kings, literally no one ran anything else.. so it may just be one of those social/herd mentality phenomenon's. Fox's seem to be more popular on the FJ-Cruiser and Taco boards. I had intended on going King or Fox and eventually went with Fox simply because I was offered a killer deal on them.. works for me.

Thanks so much for all the info Harper, I will definately be reading over those threads and see what system would best suit my needs and intentions.

I'll have to look a bit more into the differences in working with a kdss equipped truck. I also did like the fact with Icon, that you could get the entire system from one company, including their rear springs, UCA, rear links.

Yea, I get it.. I made sure to get Fox rear shocks as well, figuring that they've got them valved accordingly. Everything is sitting in storage right now cause I haven't had a block of time to install yet, but considering I just ordered tires today I should probably get on it lol.

I should add, I did look at and study all of the alternatives for literally 4 months. I was first set on Icons simply because of all the great things I had heard about them, studied more, was keen a set of Radflo, read some more and it evolved to Kings, read more hmm Fox.

I called Toytec with the intention to buy a set of adjustable dampening Kings, he gave me the price of the Fox w/ dsc. They were nearly the same price so I opted to go with more adjustable Fox setup.
