Frame Mounted Side Steps

I want to buy some nerf style side rails/steps for my 2014 SR5, but it seems that the only available mounting options are rocker panel mounted. Did a search on this forum and the net and didn't find any frame mounted nerf bars option. I know they do have them for other style trucks but not my 4Runner. Am I missing something or can someone shed some light on this issue? I took a close look at the frame and it seems that there are some holes that are pre-threaded for mounting something. I'm not sure what. I want to do this to have a bit more stability to help my little girl, and wife step into the vehicle. Thanks in advance.

I understand your concern, but the pre-threaded under body hard points are really quite solid for mounting steps to. I had a pair of Nfab step bars on mine for several months before I decided on sliders. They had no problem supporting my 250+ lbs, and the step hoops are big enough for any size feet. The only ones I know of that mount to the frame are rock slider styles, and sometimes they don't protrude far enough for good footing. I know my wife much preferred the convenience of the Nfabs to my Shrockworks step sliders.

Fully agree, i have the Nfabs as well and they have no trouble supporting my 270 lb self, as well as my size 12 feet, and i have used them quite extensively putting snowboards and other stuff onto the roof rack.

Thanks for the reply guys. This makes me feel alot better about getting the rocker panel mounted side steps.

Shrockworks makes great side steps. Their main function is rock sliders so they might be slightly overkill for what you need for the price.

I have BudBuilts on my 5th gen and my wife hates them but I think they are great. They actually stick out enough to use as steps but she keeps hitting her legs on them. At some point, I may switch to Nfabs or something just to please her even though I did buy them with rocker protection primarily in mind.
