Spring Break

Took time off of work and school and it was MUCH needed. Well into Engineering school taking a full course load and working 30+ hours per week has taken its toll.

Leaving the mountains and getting to warmer weather! Still chilly on the East Coast, but Melbourne, Florida had 85 degrees waiting for us, and the surf fishing was off the chain!

My beautiful companion when I take off on adventures... 4 years have gone by and she's only fallen more and more in love with the 4Runner. So much so that she threatened to buy it if I were to ever attempt to sell it

She's a keeper ladie's and gent's!

Those nilight projectors are the ones off of Amazon correct? I'm about to order everything to do a cheap retrofit, and was going to go with those as well. How well do they light up the road?

They are the nilight projectors! I will post an output shot of them for you. I have to wait until I am done with lectures for the day.

Update: We had to make some modifications to the orientation of the female and male 90* fittings that I ordered from Eaton. Essentially I added a 90* pipe fitting -8S size onto the shock body and flipped the hose around so that the 90* female fitting went onto the reservoir.

The below pictures were the original orientation

Shock Disassembly:

1:Remove the 3 hex bolts holding the piston dust cap on.

2:Depress the piston into the shock until the snap-ring is exposed.

3:Remove the snap-ring with a pick and pull on the shock shaft to remove from the shock body.

Reassembly: Follow the previous steps in reverse order.

I have a question. After you swapped the fittings. Who recharged the shock for you? Did you have to send it out or do you have someone local that can charge em?

I went to a place local to me called Motion Control Suspension. They were local to me (20 minutes). One suspension shop was going to charge me $250/shock. I looked around and MCS was a small shop manufacturer that actually filled my shocks up on two separate occasions for free. They were super nice and actually offered me a full-time job after seeing the 4Runner and some of the things that I have done. *I didn't take the job* Needless to say, it was free and local! Don't go to a big offroad shop!

Nice Rig! :thumb: that's kind of the direction im headed with mine. I probably missed it because i read through it fast but are you running a front locker?

There's a local place by me. It's a motorcycle shop that specializes in quads & dirt bikes. I wonder if they can pressurize shocks for me.

Not quite a front locker... front LSD unfortunately on the new front diff. I am about to be wrapping up a 4wd swap. Just 4.56 LSD and manual hubs. In the near future I will be running a front e-locker. I couldn't believe they actually exist. Air lockers are more typical for these rigs, but after searching around I found the Harrop Eaton Terrain Tamer E-locker for the 7.5" diff. It's produced in Australia for the hilux, but the 7.5" diffs are the same!

Just ask around to see who can pressurize with nitrogen. That's what most higher end coilovers are meant to run!

Drivetrain fun

Southern Appalachia is a Toyota goldmine. A good friend was keeping his eye out for a brother and he helped me score a $100 e-locker axle housing and I finally received confirmation that my front E-locker will soon make its way to the US of A all the way from Aussieland. Here is a picture of the last peice I needed for my e locker conversion! Harness is ready to go and the 4.56 OEM E-locker will be installed once College let's out! IMG_7239.jpg IMG_7238.jpg

It's the little things in life

Electrical Upgrades

I got my 4-Ripcord Acrylic fuse panel right before he discontinued them! I am going to be running a CS144 Alternator and doing the big 3 mod in the next 2 weeks once college lets out, so I wanted to make sure I ordered my panel with every option he offered. Prompt delivery and a QUALITY product! I already have a Blue Seas Positive/Negative Bus 12-slot fuse panel, 100Amp circuit breaker and 120Amp breaker as well as an ignition relay, this was the last piece to the puzzle. I got this panel in "true blue" to match my King Springs, and it darn near perfect!IMG_7304.jpg Thank you Jim! 4-Ripcord !

Coming along man! Any plans for a 4wd conversion or going to leave it 2wd?

Yes! I am finishing the e-locker swap for an upcoming trip out west because I would feel 100% cramming a swap in right before a 4,500 mile drive. I have a 4.56 3rd member with an e-locker that I pulled off of a truck with 72k miles. Front 4.56 came from the same truck! I also found a 4cyl 4x4 trans, but I'm debating as to whether I should swap an R150F or not. I know it takes a bit of work getting the input shaft length correct. Opinions?

I can't advise you as to how to do the install... My mechanical skills are limited... that being said... as a Northern boy, where snow is around for nearly 6months of the year... I can say that 4wd is a must for me! ;)

That being said, I've recently retired mine from winter duties... and use it strictly as cruising truck... so I would actually do without the 4wd now. ;)

Check out my build sometime... it's an OEM Plus build... without the off-road goodies... but I still sport a lift, tires... and a ton of other mods. Currently getting a sport hood and paint work done on mine.. :)

Yep. I think you should hold off on that e-locker swap. Then just drop it off at my house when you come out west. lol How did you find one with that gearing?

I went through your build a couple of times! Super clean! I am pretty mechanically inclined. I've sorted out the nitty gritty for the 4x4 4cyl transmission, it's the V6 Trans conversion that would require some serious work.
