friend needs a new vehicle...this 3rd gen look good?

Originally, he wanted to get a Civic or something. Then he was looking at a Jeep because he wants to go off roading. I told him to look into a 4Runner and i found one that he really likes. This is lifted and modded and obviously wheeled. Anything in particular to look out for if he goes to check it out? Thanks.

That thing looks beat. Look at the front bumper, it's about to fall off. I would pass on that one.

It's cheap, can't hurt to go look at it I guess but look at it good. Looks pretty rough in the pics. I'd buy it as a dedicated wheeler, no way I'd buy it as a DD though.

In general, unless you are looking to buy a only a trail rig that isn't needed as a daily driver, you should never buy a vehicle that has been wheeled.

You want to be the one that beats it up, not buy a beat up truck. Make sense? This person clearly wheeled, or at least, wanted to look the part. Wheeling destroys trucks, we know this. Smashing rocks and trees, driving through creeks; these all take a toll on a truck.


It sounds like your friend needs a daily driver. I know it isn't "pretty", but he SHOULD be looking at NON MODIFIED, easy going trucks with the wussy road tires. These vehicles will have lived the "easiest" life for a decade old truck.

He can eventually add sexy tires and an awesome lift.. when he can afford it.

yeah i would at least like to go check it out. i would give it the fact that it looks well protected, bumpers, sliders, etc. I'm curious to see what that undercarriage looks like. Also, i notice the tires are pretty worn, maybe an indication that the guy didn't wheel it as much as you would think. From the decent pics, it looks like the body is in good shape. I am curious though and would like to drive it and look at it thoroughly. Also, I was trying to figure this one out, do you think the bumper is falling off or is that just the style?

It looks like 20 lbs of hammer **** in an ankle sock. The folks above are correct. Don't buy a wheeled vehicle. Maybe, only if it was a trail rig only. Buying it as a DD is asking for trouble.

It's also sagging bad on the rear driver's side so it's going to need some suspension work as well

I cannot get over how clean that leather is though.

And the T-Case boot is not installed correctly.

hahaha...I wonder if the previous owner is on this forum! And I can laugh at the front bumper all day now that I know it's not supposed to be like that. I definitely wouldn't buy this truck but my friend still might consider it. This is in his price range..stock 3rd gens are out of reach. Actually there is a Civic that someone he knows is selling but has yet to see it. If the Civic is a bigger POS then this, he might take a look. I would at least like to have a look if he chose to see it. Thanks for the input!
