Friggin California Emissions: No AFE CAI for Me

After much research on EZ mods I can do on my newly purchased 2013 T4R Limited, I decided to pull the plug on a Cold Air Intake by AFE (vs TRD). I saw a sale on one of the large online auto parts store for 20% off. All was going well until I entered in the zip code for shipping. This is what I got back...

"We're sorry - this item cannot be shipped to your state due to emissions restrictions."

Tried the same thing on Amazon and got a similar message.

When I lived it CA I always had to find the sketchy smog guy. At the time I moved there I had a full turbo kit on my Audi, so it was lot more than just the intake that wasn't CARB approved and it wasn't really feasible to make it compliant. After driving from SF to Reno and back in one day to install the cat (part was at my parent's house), I had had enough and just left it installed even though it was probably a 15hp loss and took another 500rpms before the turbo spooled up. On top of that, if you get pulled over the CHP can ask to inspect your vehicle for aftermarket parts, and if your intake doesn't have the CARB approved sticker(among many other potential violations) then you get a ticket.

I wanted the AFE cause the install looked easier and it was $100 cheaper, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

I will have an AFE for sale very soon. I am going to the TRD for emissions reasons. First SMOG is around the corner.
