Before: 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon (Winter Chill), bought new in April 2012
After: 2015 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition (Classic Silver Metallic)
Because of limited choice the TE came with KDSS (which I definitely wanted), Entune Premium Audio (probably a good thing), Carpet Floor Mat and Cargo Mat (can’t avoid these), Rigid Running Boards (no strong opinion, but not a deal breaker), Exhaust Tip (complete waste of money).
However, because of the low mileage and excellent condition of the Jeep, the dealer offered us what amounted to 96.5% of our out-the-door cost of the Jeep when I bought it. I got the dealer to swap out thefive four (dealer said the spare wouldn't fit under the truck 
) stock Bridgestone Dueler HTs for BFG AllTerrain T/A KO2s before I took delivery. I probably got reamed a little on the tires, but considering the deal on the Jeep I didn’t complain too much. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised to find the low depreciation of the Jeep was not a myth.
When we bought the Jeep in 2012 we also considered a TE and an Xterra Pro 4. We went with the Jeep because of the more rugged build "out of the box” and also because there was enough room to sleep in the back.
Sleeping in the back of the Jeep was fine but it got old unloading all the gear each time. We also realized that we were not going go rock crawling but really needed more of a trail vehicle that was also comfortable on the highway. Without the deal on the Jeep we probably would have stayed with it and got something like the Ursa Minor J30 for sleeping.
Future plans for the 4Runner include a roof rack and RTT - two of us sleeping in the back is not going to work. We’ll see what else we need to do (sliders?, beefier skid plates?) as we use it.
Anyway, we are excited about our new truck and look forward to exploring more of Utah and the desert southwest in it.
