What's up everyone,
I recently purchased a 1999 SR5 4x4 4Runner. I've owned 2 Tacoma's previously. The first one was a 1999 Prerunner. It got recalled and crushed due to the frame rust issue, so I financed a 2004 Tacoma 4x4 5-speed. I got sick of the car payment, sold it, and bought this 4Runner. I was a little nervous and about losing the truck bed, but wow this 4Runner is awesome! My buddy had one that we beat the crap out of and it never so much as blinked through it all. I fixed some minor issues it had such as the rear defroster (cut wire), the dead clock, plugged rear diff breather valve, and some other real minor things. I also took the running boards off and saved $120 (front mud flaps the dealer quoted me which are apparently available at the Fort's Toyota in Pekin, IL store for those of you searching) by cutting the plastic piece off the running boards and mounting it as a mud flap. It was really simple, I just cut it to size, ground the mud flaps with a bench grinder to get cuts smoother, then screwed them on and added a vertical piece of metal to increase strength. A few days ago I bought some Cooper AT3 tires and soon I'll be upgrading the roof rack for my mountain bikes. I think I'll make something custom and use some conduit tubing for cross bars. Yakima racks are almost $300 bucks unfortunately. This forum is great and I'm on it constantly. Thanks everyone for all your input and I hope I can contribute! I tried putting a picture in this post but I don't know if it's gonna work or not.
This 4Runner rocks and for those of you thinking about switching from a Tacoma to a 4Runner, I wouldn't hesitate. Just get a rubber mat for the trunk and the seats fold down for your "truck bed".
