Front Bilstein 5100

I was just looking under the truck and noticed the boot cover is a little smashed / crushed / mangled for the adjustable 5100 (it looks flimsy anyway). Is this normal?

I'll see if I can get a picture in.

I've also noticed that one spring is more compressed than the other...does this have a long term affect?

EDIT: Just found in another thread about different coils on driver and passenger but no one confirmed. On the 4Runner, are there more wraps on the passenger side?

Looks to me like the installer didn't get it seated properly over the shock body. You may be able to fix it yourself by spraying soapy water over the top of the shock and working the boot with your finger or a wrench between the coils.

I tried working it but it wasn't moving. Spring is more compressed on passenger side, I can't even get my fingers in between. Any other ideas?

It's not a gotta have, but it does keep the upper part of the shock shaft clean from road and off road grit and grunge. This kind of helps your seals last longer. Did you try jacking that corner up to see if the coils would open enough? I mean if you're careful a pair of long forceps might work.

Thanks brother. I just need a way to figure out how I'm going to bring the lip out from inside of itself at the bottom...I need something like a hook small enough to put under there.
 
Don't know if it would be long enough but go to Lowe's or Home depot and ask for a paint can opener. It's about 4" long with a 3/16" lip on the end. It's what I wanted to use to pop the caps on my roof rack but I couldn't find one at home.

Yeah definitely didn't work. The lip inside wouldn't come out and wasn't budging...any other ideas? Is it worth taking it to a mechanic to fix?
