Front bumper question

Did the searches without any specific answers. Has anyone ever installed a 96-98 front bumper on a 99-02 (fat lip)? If so is there a list of all parts needed to do it? To me it looks like bracketry is different. Just my opinion but I like the old style one better. The pic shows it as of today. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, it has been done. You lose the extra bumper beam protection behind the fat lip (why it got fat...). The brackets for the bumper cover should match - the two bolts on each side near the front of the frame rails.

The bumper brackets are not interchangeable, once you take the fat lip one off you'll see that real quick as you have suspected. It's not too hard to remove the whole bumper though, I've done it many times when parting out 4Runners. The rear is harder as it comes off in 3 sections but the front is just one big solid piece.

The fog light design changed slightly over the years so if you try and transplant your new ones into the old bumper you may run into issues. I have not looked at enough of them to know definitively either way.

Thanks guys for the responces. It is just a thought to either install the early one or refurbish the existing bumper that's not really in bad shape. I've owned this 99 for about 5 years and after all the time and $ invested in getting it to being a pretty good example of what a 3rd gen should be this is the last thing on my bucket list. I was lucky enough to find a southern truck with minimal frame rust that was completely stock but needed a little love and plus it's a 5 speed. Being that the winters here in Pa are so hard on all vehicles I don't drive it at all until spring. This will be a good project to do during the cold months. Thanks again, Mike

Ack, I wasn't clear. The mounts on the frame for the bumper are the same, but the brackets between the frame and bumper a different.
