front coil overs

Planning to install front coil-overs. So what kind of lift should I expect with a 3 inch spacer? I heard the front lift will not corresponds to the thickness of the spacer.

If you install a spacer lift on factory (assuming worn out springs) it probably will be around 2" - 2.5" I would THINK.

Don't buy that spacer kit. Thats a top mount spacer which will cause your upper ball joint to bind a commit suicide. It will also cause the spindle to smack into the factory spring which will make a nice loud clanging noise.

Preload spacers are a much safer design but aren't exactly ideal either especially with older coils.

Got a budget you are looking to stick to?

My tip would be to watch the classfieds over on TacomaWorld. I love my [MENTION=44448]ToyTec Lifts[/MENTION] Boss Coils, but if I knew I could have picked up some rebuildable coilovers for <$300, I would have gone that route.

Well..... thanks for the advice.
I had preload spacers on the 4runner springs and they were tight as hell. never absorb an impact on the road.

I now have 2000 4x4 tacoma springs and Bilestein strut and it is magnificent in absorbing bumps. Now I can go over bumps like driving a lexus car. The tacoma springs are soft and have a different winding pattern (coils are closer at the top and far at the bottom). If I add the same preloaders to this set-up do you think I'll get a lift?

What are you guys referring to as preload spacers? Since you can't preload the coil unless the shock is fully extended (drooped) all the time, which I would imagine would be bad since you won't have any down travel.

The coil pattern tells you they are progressive rated. The closer wound section at the top is softer, and the coil gets stiffer as the distance between them increases. I wonder why Toyota never used progressive coils on the 3rd gen when they used it on the Taco . . . silly Toyota

Wait....I didn't know the tacoma also had a progressive rate spring...but they dont add lift? I was looking at tundra springs but I would prefer <2" lift. Like 1.5" or so but with progressive rate. What is the length of the stock 4runner front spring?

Found the preloads I removed from my previous struts.

The strut/spring shown is from the tacoma.
