front D ring mounts

Just wanted to chime in as I got a set of these from Trackdecal for the rear of my 4Runner. I had removed the tow hitch a ways back to make room for an oversized spare so didn't have any hardware in the frame to use.

I can confirm that M12 bolts with a 1.25 thread pitch in lengths of 40mm and 50mm are the way to go. As I didn’t have hardware in my frame I had to hit all four holes with PB Blaster and a wire brush to clean things up, otherwise no bolts were going in.

The brackets themselves are a great and simple solution at a fair price. Would highly recommend these.

Don't mean to revive an old thread, but I have the same problem of lacking hardware for my front -- would M12 bolts with a 1.25 thread pitch in lengths of 40mm and 50mm work for the front as well, where the tie down / tow hooks would be?

Yes, they would also work for the front. The lengths should be offset since the bracket has two heights for the bolt holes. They were fabricated for the original bolts that were there (one side was short, one long) to make things easy. I know it's not as easy when you don't have the original hardware.

Yes. I sold them once I realized this.

I now have an early style bumper with a front hitch, so no need for these mounts now anyway.

Do you mean the shackle mount is hitting the front factory bumper mount preventing proper installation? Just wanted to clarify bc I haven't ordered these yet but are on my list.

No, the mount itself fits fine. What I’m talking about is the shackle that goes through the hole. When at rest it hangs perpendicular to the ground, if you were going to use it however, when something pulls on the shackle it will want to be parallel to the ground but the front bumper mount is in the way of it going full parallel. I’ve emailed the shop owner but haven’t gotten a response yet.

edit: look at page 33 of this thread about 3/4 down. That is the same issue I am having.

I'm curious about this as well. I can see what he is talking about from the photo. I'm looking at getting a set of these for the front but I'm concerned about the issue shown here.

legokcen replied and said it shouldn't cause any issues but I'm still skeptical as a lot of weight will be placed on the bumper mount tab.

With this concern that you all have, I've made a new bracket that extends lower. This should clear perfectly. It mounts the same way as the original design, however just extends down another 1" and has a stronger backing (taper back to the mounting). This puts the mounting hole for the shackle lower adds strength with additional metal.

To order this design, just add "lower bracket" to the comments and I'll make sure to make that style.

Here are some pictures of the new lower mounts. They clear fully and the shackle can be pulled up past horizontal. I've also taken a picture with the original design on the passenger side to show the difference. Pics below:

Nice update! It would be helpful to show that it clears with the 99-02 "fat lip" front bumper as well.

i actually didnt realize 99+ got a difference bumper.

I have two sets of brackets that are primed and ready for paint. I have have them out in time for Christmas I believe, however I'm traveling starting Friday. If anyone would like a set, let me know. They're the extended versions that also clear the '99-02 bumper.
