Front End Refresh

I need the replace my:
CV's
LBJ's
Steering rack bushings
LCA bushings
and my adjustment cams are "frozen"

The issue is I just don't have much left in the budget, about $350 is all actually. What I am thinking is trying to get away with doing CV's, LBJ's and poly rack bushings. I have a good alignment now and the LCA's bushings aren't making any noise or anything.

So CV's from CVJ $235
OEM LBJ's from Camelback $180
Poly Rack bushings $20
Total $435

So just those three overshoot what I have spend, but I can probably convince the wife to let me have it. My question is if I do those three things will it affect my alignment? If I am going to need realigned I want to do the cams and bushings etc. Which means I am going to need to find a way to free up some funds.

Anything I am missing, or input on the subject?

Like stated already, changing the LBJ's will slightly change. However, that's also going to depend on how bad your LBJ's actually are.

Replacing the ball joints will affect the alignment slightly, but not a lot. The others will have no effect.

Thanks, I'm not sure how much play they have and should check. I also don't know when or if they were ever replaced.

why not get new parts store cvs with lifetime warranty. $64 each

I have considered that and honestly just don't trust them. A "Lifetime Warranty" does me little good when broken on the trail.

NAPA Premiums, and a ton of people are running them with no issues.

I'm aware, but I don't drive my runner the same way tons of people do. And I prefer spending the extra $30 for OEM steel from a reputable semi-local shop. I didn't have to pay for shipping CVJ is actually cheaper than NAPA.

Special?!

My mom thinks I am, thanks for noticing. But in all seriousness there are very few members here that have a 3rd Gen as a dedicated trail rig. I depend on this thing to get me into the middle of no where and bring me back home. OEM took it 24X,XXX so I think I'll stick with that for the price difference.

My concern with aftermarket CV's less strength in the actual shaft and binding at full droop. The Napa's seem like they are the best OEM replacement at this point though.

I agree. Parts store CVs are great for getting around town, but there's a reason CVJ gets to charge more for an OEM reman than the parts store charges for new... they're better.

Changing a CV on the trail is not fun, and can be dangerous. When you're abusing your IFS and you're 300 miles of dirt from the nearest parts store, aftermarket doesn't cut it. He's not "special" for using his truck for what it was made for and wanting parts he can trust.

And for the record:
New Napa: $106
Reman CVJ: $94

In my original post I included the $44 in shipping from CVJ.

Actually I think he is, notice i didn't put it in quotes. May have sounded as such but we all try to use our rigs for what they're intended (that's a long list in a runner), in my case just from the factory, but its still as intended. Thanks for the info though and no feather rufflin' intended. Over and out...

If your looking at replacing lower control arm bushings look up whiteline bushings, I think part number w35577a I got them from Amazon for 63 shipped and no BS hassle of reusing my old sleeves like energy and other companies make you do.

Btw I'm into rebuilding my whole front end for a little under 1500 that's not including coilovers body lift or wheel spacers I just had to get lol.

Not to get into the pissing contest of who wheels harder or what CV is best, I have an OEM CV that I rebooted and need to get rid of if you want. Like $65 shipped or something... Also have an O'Reilly CV if anyone wanted that one haha

If you had a pair of rebooted OEM's I might consider that.

Check my order...

Decided to do OTRE's LBJ's new LCA bushings and all related hardware so I can get it all aligned. The bushings are not available that I can find through camel back so I'll order aftermarket elsewhere. Here is my shopping list, anything missing?
