Wow, that would be bad. Friend of mine was saying they will start making a popping sound when they're on their way out, is that true?

I'm not sold enough that the vibration is caused by the lbj's to justify spending 300 dollars on a whim. So I'm just trying to get the most info I can before I start spending money.

I've never heard them pop. I've heard tie rod ends pop when they're going out. Crawl under your 4runner and have a look. Look for any grease coming out, or cracked boots. You can also jack up the front, grab your wheel at 12/6, and give it a wiggle. If you feel any play at all you either have bad LBJ's or wheel bearings. If you're feeling vibrations in your steering it's coming from the front end!

70 mph down the interstate, and I had a flat with a lower ball joint failure the flat just speed the process up

Crawled under there today to do some other stuff and took a look at the LBJ's while I was under there. The passenger side was oozing and the drivers side was cracked. Guess ill be doing them sometime soon. Anyone know which brand NAPA LBJ's have the lifetime warranty? They vary in price from like 40 bucks a piece to a little over 100 per side.

Ya know if u haven't already visited I would just order a name brand balljoints from RockAuto Parts Catalog BECK/ARNLEY or MEVOTECH
I've installed both on a couple of different Runners and they haven't had issue in 4 years, and u can save a buck or two... I just wish I found rock auto 4 years ago would of saved a lot

my '99 2WD (140K miles) also has a vibration between 70 and 72. Go faster or slower and the vibration goes away. I've replaced LBJ & tie rod ends. I also recently replaced both u-joints on the drive shaft. Both wheels are balanced and swapping wheels front to rear makes no difference. I am going to take it in again and have all 4 wheels re-balanced to be sure. I wouldn't think UBJs could cause this. I may replace them anyway. I am going to put her up on jack stands and see if there is any play in the steering. Beyond this does anyone have any ideas?

Front end vibrations can be caused by many things. Most common is out of balance tires, separated tire, out of round tires, warped rotor(s), bad front end bushings, bad rack bushings, bad hub bearing, bad ball joints. All are things to be checking fix what you find to be bad. Most of these things are fairly easy to replace if you have tools ans basic know how.

not really. bad bushings, or ball joints wont cause a vibration at high speed, neither will warped rotors.
bead wheel bearings yes.
typically, what the OP described is going to be a tire/wheel issue. especially if its a speed related vibration, I have yet to see one that it WASNT a tire balance issue. be it from a separated/bad tire, or just from improper balance.

as was said above, you MUST use the correct adapter or the balance will never be right. stock Toyota wheels are notoriously hard to balance.

rotating MIGHT change the vibrations. but not always, often times the rear can be out, but you don't notice it. so swapping them to the front doesn't change much.

You think something in the rear could be cause for the vibrations I'm feeling in the front/steering wheel? I only balanced the front tires because I didn't really think the rear would cause front end vibrations, but if it can maybe I need to get those balanced too?

Well, the LBJ's and outer tie rods are replaced, trucks aligned and still vibrating. Other than tire balance, are there any other things to look for?
