Front hitch pictures please

I was thinking of installing a front hitch on my Trail when it arrives. Does anyone have pictures of the the Curt 31367 hitch installed on their T4R Trail Edition? Is it discreet and does ground clearance suffer?

Unfortunately, that's a pic of a LE with a front hitch. Isn't the front fascia different on a Trail edition?

Yes, the front cover is different.
No, clearance would be no different than what is shown in the picture because it would mount in the same position. The actual bumper (what's behind the cover) is the same, as is the frame, etc. KDSS changes things a little.
You would have to be your own critic on whether it is "discreet" looking. Most people don't buy front hitches because of looks.

Here is the photo you asked for. There is plenty of clearance. Hitch sits higher than skid plate.

When a front hitch is installed, is it still possible to install a Budbuilt hidden winch mount?

Also, a side question, with a hidden winch...are you able to easily free-spool?
 
I've been considering that...plus I like the option of moving the winch to the rear hitch as needed. Just weighing my options. I like the clean look of the hidden hitch though.

That was my thought too when I installed the Curt front hitch. The problem is, to get far enough forward to clear the bumper, the stem of the removable winch mount has to be quite long. The only one I've found long enough to do this is the Curt removable winch mount. With that one you are using the hole closest to the end of the stem which only leaves about 2-3 inches inside the reveiver and about 7 inches sticking out. This is OK for a straight ahead pull, but if you have much of an angle you could bend the mount and/or the hitch receiver due to the leverage created by the length of the extended stem.
 
OK...got the Curt hitch installed today.

I was hoping that the plastic splash guard could be retained to keep road debris away from the rad, etc. Did anyone have success saving it or did you just toss it?

was just running this idea through my head just now!!!
got a bull bar up front right now......shoulda did the front hitch instead......

I too was unable to retain the use of the plastic splash guard. So I am placing it away, should i ever need to remove the Curt Hitch.

I see on the forum, that some members are being charged up to $200 for replacing that exact piece. So hold on to it. or offer it for sale to the forum.

This looks like a very sturdy unit, I got bored and was looking into it more after seeing this thread. Here is a link to their install instructions in case anyone else is curious

Seems to be secured pretty well as it bolts to the frame and the stock recovery points?

Great purchase RobDek, and while you are removing the Curt sticker as PocketRocket suggested, could you please scrap a little higher and remove that white paper label off too? :)

I got lazy and never removed the one off my sister's Curt hitch and now years later it has turned into an ugly mess. Fortunately it's stuck onto the underside where no one sees it.
