Front Marker Lights

Okay, I have searched until my fingers are raw, and have read every post I can find, but I am not finding any answers.

I have an ‘05 Sport, and I noticed the front marker lights were not working. The rear side marker lights work, as does every other light on the truck.

Easy fix, I thought, and bought two new bulbs, changed them, and neither work.

I assume since the rear marker lights, fail lights and brake lights work that it is not a fuse problem, so perhaps it is a ground as some have suggested in the searching I have done.

BUT, where do I check for a ground on those little lights?

All the wiring is appears intact, and I detect no corrosion. I haven’t put a multi meter on the plugs yet—it’s beeen too damn cold.

Anybody else have any success with this problem?

Do the bulb sockets look melted at all?

Not all all. Thanks for your interest.

I’m going to yank the battery and see if I can get a closer look at the driver side marker light. With the battery in its nearly impossible to do much.

Did you have any trouble getting the socket out of housing? My passenger side marker light burned out and I can't get the socket out to change it. I would think you just need to twist it down (counter-clockwise), right?

I'll just pull out the whole headlight housing if I have to, but I know it shouldn't be this hard haha.

I followed a suggestion I saw on YouTube: after you pop off the plug, fit a 17mm deep socket over the light socket and turn counterclockwise about 1/4 turn then wriggle it loose.

I saw that video. Didn’t really help me as much as the owners manual did. I was able to undo the socket with my hands but on the driver side I had to undo the battery and move it a bit. I replaced mine with LED.

Tombob, were the new bulbs good? That sounds silly but what if the bulbs were bad? Just a thought.

Good question, and I wondered that too. When it warms up, I plan on buying some regular bulbs and trying those. I have heard LED bulbs can simply not work, due to “lack of resistance,” or some such reason, or be bad from the factory.

I’ll report back when we are free of the polar vortex.

I thought I give LED a shot. The ones I got were a little longer than I like as it’s a little too close to the housing.

I have LED's in mine and like em. If you go that route and one or more don't work try taking the LED out and rotate it 180 degrees, many LED's are polarity dependent

Well, mikewhiskey, that’s what I ended up doing.

This afternoon was warm, so I pulled the sockets, rotated the bulbs, and voila! Both worked. I was unaware they could be polarity dependent until I was examining the bulb package and saw in fine print that if the bulb didn’t work try rotating it.

After multiple curses, I finally got the driver side socket back in and now I have front marker lights!
