Front Propeller Shaft

So my 4Runner has been royally screwed by a Toyota dealership because my 6 month old clutch which was replaced by an independent repair shop with a good reputation may have been a poor job or received a defective bearing.

So Wednesday morning I get under the truck to grease the propeller shafts after finally getting it back Tuesday night and I can't find the "B" fitting for the sliding yoke on the front propeller shaft at the transfer case. When I move on to other joints I realize the shaft is backwards when I find the fitting and yoke at the front differential. This is according to the Tacoma shop manual. I lost my access to the 4Runner shop manual. I have 4 questions:

1. Does the shaft go in the same direction according to the 4Runner shop manual? I would be stunned if it was the opposite between the Tacoma and 4Runner. This was the first time I greased the shafts myself so I never looked that close before my clutch was replaced.

2. How urgent is it to get it switched back around if it is backwards? I'm not planning to use 4 wheel drive for a couple of weeks.

3. Does it really matter if it's backwards in 2 wheel drive?

4. Does it really matter if it's backwards in 4 wheel drive?

I want it right but I'm not sure it's wrong without the 4Runner manual or urgent in anycase.

Here's the Zerk positioning for the 4Runner. The shaft needs to be in the right position. Take it back to the idiot who put it in wrong or ask for money back and get it fixed somewhere else on the premise that you don't trust them to torque the bolts correctly or something like that.

Oh FYI you wouldn't have a front driveshaft in a 2WD.

Thanks. That's what the Tacoma manual shows. Is that from a 4Runner shop manual? It's definitely not going back to the place that screwed it up.

Why not? You said in your first post it was a dealer and/or independent shop. (little confused there) Anyway, they have records of the maintenance that was done. They're obligated to fix it. If it's a dealer, let them know you only want the master tech to work on it. I wouldn't use them for any maintenance afterwards.
 
Slip joint should be at the xfr case end but it might not really matter unless there is physical interference with the driveshaft. It's faster and easier to take it out and turn it around youself than it is to take it anywhere.
 
It really doesn't matter which direction it's installed. x2 on doing it yourself if you want to flip it. It's less aggravation than dealing with a shop that may or may not want to take care of it or not do it right (think of leaving bolts out or not torqueing correctly etc).
