I just bought my first 4runner and I love it. I wanted something that would replace my old Blazer and this was as close as I could get to that. It exceeds the Blazer in many respects, but falls short in others. I list them here, but first and foremost is the drivers seat comfort;
1)I didnt notice it at first, but after a few long drives my lower back began to hurt. I couldn't figure out what it could be. I even got the tape measure out and compared gas pedal/stering wheel/seat measurements to my Blazer and they were all pretty much the same. I finally realized that the issue must be a metal bar going across the lower part of the back seat with hardly any padding. in addition to that, it feels like a metal sheet with hardly any padding for about 5 inches above that. so the seat has absolutely no give and no chance of it every conforming to any body because of the metal bar. I think Ill take it into Toyota and see what they have to say about it. Has anybody had any issues with this. It seems very strange to have designed a seat this way. I have the lumbar support option in my seat controller, but I dont really like something jabbing me in the back. And my back has never been affected like this in any other vehicle I have ever driven.
2)You would think, that with all that clearance, toyota could design the back seats to fold flat, but they don't. granted it is just a few inches if that, but a perfectly flat back would make a lot of things much easier.
3)The guide rail crossbars are a joke, why too low to the roof. My skis had to be placed side by side on my ski rack so that the bindings wouldn't scratch the roof.
4)I love the on the fly 4WD, but the location for the knob is really dumb. Right where the cup holders are, so stuff can potentially get spilled all over it. why not just put it up with all the other big knobs? I'm sure they could find a place for it.
5)I really liked my column shifter on the blazer, why doesn't Toyota do that?
